Universal remote on my universal remote rcr312w tried to follow last dir. sent to me did not work pushed tv button but light stayed on does not have code search or set button on it need code if possible or will have to buy new one the first of the month am guessing this remote is to old to fool with

turn on manually your set (tv), push the code button on your remote control until led light, release the button, the led still ligth. push the tv button one pulse, push the power button several times until tv turn off. when this happen push enter button... try turn on the tv with remote control.

slowly hit power button until tv turns off then hit stop button and tv will work with remote

It is stated that it was obtained from the RCA Website - but I could not find anything other than a picture of the remote there.

1) Turn on the component (the tv, dvd, etc).

2) Hold the TV (or DVD) button and the on/off button at the same time. It will stay lit.

3) Press the play button every five seconds until the component turns off. Each time the Play button is pressed, the illuminated ON-OFF button blinks ten times and a block of 10 codes is sent to your component. This process continues until all the codes in the Code Lists have been searched. If the component has not turned off after all codes have been searched, the illuminated ON-OFF button blinks four times, turns off, and the Auto Code Search Entry method is exited.

4) When the component turns off, press and release the REVERSE button, then wait two seconds to see if the component turns on again.

5) If the component does not respond, continue to press the REVERSE button EVERY TWO SECONDS UNTIL THE COMPONENT TURNS ON again. This will isolate the correct code in the last block of codes sent. Each time the REVERSE button is pressed, the illuminated ON-OFF button blinks. If the REVERSE button is accidentally pressed after the component responds, press and release the FORWARD button. Wait two seconds to see if the component turns off again.

6) To save the new code, press and release the STOP button.

7) The illuminated ON-OFF button turns off. You must press the STOP button to save the code.

I found this code on bobvila.com message board. The code from the RCR311W remote works.


1) turn on unit

2) press and hold componet button on remote (TV, VCR, etc)
until On/Off lights up

3) press and hold On/Off while holding component button. Light will go out. Continue hoding both buttons until light comes back on.

4) release both buttons. On/Off should stay on.

5) Press On/Off repeatedly until unit turns off.

6) Press the Stop key at bottom.

7) light goes off. Remote is programmed!

I GOT THIS FROM THE RCA WEBSITE...IT WORKED FOR ME...THE CRUCIAL STEP IS TO KEEP PRESSING THE REVERSE BUTTON DON'T JUST PRESS IT ONCE LIKE A LOT OF SITES SAY TO DO.  I HAD TO PRESS IT A FEW TIMES, AND THEN IT TURNED THE TV BACK ON AND THE REMOTE WORKED!!! MY REMOTE WAS THE RCA RCR312W...TV IS AN OLDER ORION

1. TURN ON THE COMPONENT (THE TV, DVD, ETC)
2. HOLD THE TV (OR DVD) BUTTON AND THE ON/OFF BUTTON AT THE SAME TIME.  IT WILL STAY LIT.
3. PRESS THE PLAY BUTTON EVERY FIVE SECONDS until the component turns off.

For the majority of phillips/magnavox universal remotes: Hold code search button down till red light satys on. Press the tv button and the red light should blink and stay lit. With the tv on, push the power button repeatedly until the tv turns off.(dont push the power button again after the tv turns off or it will go to the next code). Push the mute button to save the setting.

HERE IS THE SKINNY: SOLUTION TO YOUR PROBLEM !!!! IT DOES WORK.

1, TURN ON THE COMPONENT YOU WANT TO PROGRAM.
2, PRESS AND RELEASE THE COMPONENT BUTTON ON YOUR REMOT THAT CORRESPONDS TO THE COMPONENT YOU WANT THE REMOTE TO OPERATE.
TV, VCR, ETC... THE ILLUMINATED ON-OFF BUTTON WILL TURN ON AND STAY ON.
3, NOW PRESS BOTH BUTTONS ON-OFF AND TV, OR: ON-OFF AND CBL. WHAT EVER.
THE ON-OFF BUTTON ON TOP OF THE REMOTE WILL TURN OFF, KEEP PRESSING
AND IT WILL COME BACK ON AND STAY ON. RELEASE THE BUTTONS,BOTH.
ON-OFF WILL STAY ON NOW.
4, KEEP POINTING THE REMOTE AT THE COMPONENT, THE REMOTE AND THE TV
NEED TO TALK TO EACH OTHER,(MAKES SENSE.)
5, GO TO THE BOTTON OF THE REMOTE AND PRESS THE "PLAY" BUTTON,
RELEASE. "" KEEP PUSHING THE PLAY BUTTON EVERY 5 SECONDS,
UNTIL THE TV TURNS OFF"". OR THE VCR, OR THE CBL, WHATEVER YOU ARE
PROGRAMING.
6, NOW: PRESS AND RELEASE THE "REVERSE" BUTTON, THIS IS AFTER THE TV
HAS TURNED OFF. TV SHOULD TURN BACK ON WHEN THE "REVERSE" BUTTON
IS PUSHED.
7, IF THIS WORKS THE LAST STEP IS TO HIT THE "STOP" BUTTON,
THIS WILL SAVE THE SETTING. REMOTE SHOULD BE PROGRAMED AND TURN

Hold button down for unit you want to program. (TV,DVD,VCR) Then hold down on off button at same time. On/off button will turn off then come back on. When this happens push the play button. Wait 10 seconds and then push again. Repeat until unit turns off. Once unit turns off push rewind button one at a time until unit turns back on then push the stop button.
