When I turn on my MC6500P I get a msg telling me to press the auto cutter button. I press it and it tells me to press it again. And again. And again. The hook race is clean, there's no thread in the cutter, there isn't even any thread in the machine!!! I can't thread the bobbin thread thru or sew anything. Is there a way to fix this myself (like a reset button) or do I need to take it to a service center?
Check that the bobbin case is in the correct position, there should be a red arrow and red dot to align. The bobbin case is held in by a magnet and I've found that mine can be dislodged when I sew heavy projects and the threads jam up.
I have never had this problem on any of the machines i have repaired.
What happens if you press the needle up/down button?

The machine only beeps when I press the needle down button or any other button. Nothing else happens.
The same thing happens to me on the Janome Memory Craft 6600 where the auto cutter demands to be pressed but then nothing happens other than the bobbin case shudders and a warning comes up on the screen saying the machine is stopped for safety reasons. I did take it to a service centre and they didn't seem to do anything special and it worked. I have cleaned the bobbin area of all lint. This is the second time this has happened and I have only had the machine for about 6 months.
