Janome MemoryCraft 6500P auto cutter problem

When I turn on my MC6500P I get a msg telling me to press the auto cutter button. I press it and it tells me to press it again. And again. And again. The hook race is clean, there's no thread in the cutter, there isn't even any thread in the machine!!! I can't thread the bobbin thread thru or sew anything. Is there a way to fix this myself (like a reset button) or do I need to take it to a service center?

The machine only beeps when I press the needle down button or any other button. Nothing else happens.

The same thing happens to me on the Janome Memory Craft 6600 where the auto cutter demands to be pressed but then nothing happens other than the bobbin case shudders and a warning comes up on the screen saying the machine is stopped for safety reasons. I did take it to a service centre and they didn't seem to do anything special and it worked. I have cleaned the bobbin area of all lint. This is the second time this has happened and I have only had the machine for about 6 months.

Check that the bobbin case is in the correct position, there should be a red arrow and red dot to align. The bobbin case is held in by a magnet and I've found that mine can be dislodged when I sew heavy projects and the threads jam up.

Slow sewing regardless of speed setting

I'm thinking that the problem is in the foot control
take the foot control to a sewing machine repair shop and have it checked out
you say it appears aftermarket--probably is to replace a faulty OEM unit

My MC6500P Janome has a hard to turn wheel

This could be cause by a several different conditions. It is often the case in this situation that the machine is merely in need of lubrication. You may also have thread wrapped around one or all of your thread take up linkages. It could possibly be a matter of belt tension either on the motor belt or the timing belt. In any case it would probably be best to take this machine to a reputable sewing machine repair shop in your area.

My Janome 6500p runs by itself and won't stop when I touch the needle up and down button. I have to shut the machine off to get it to stop "phantom" sewing. It is possessed? Has never worked...

Do you have your manual for this machine? I think that the Janomes have a feature where you can stitch without the foot control at all. I know its in the manual for my 1600P, maybe check the index on yours. But if there is a problem and its still in the warranty period, Janome should still repair it even if the dealership is gone.

Have you tried to contact Janome head office in your country? They should have a technial expert who can help you. There is also an online forum on their website. Just start here http://content.janome.com/index.cfm/ContactUs , there is a machine help email address. If you are not in the USA, then go to your country's Janome website, then "Contact Us" to find a phone number or email.

I would persist with the machine as I think the 6500 was a good featured model.
