I have an HP Laptop model G60-247CL Windows Home Vista Premium. I forgot the password and now i can't login and use it. i tried the safe mode but the user account name still pops up and ask for the password which i have forgotten. How do i solve this without reformatting so that the original default settings remain.

Lost Windows password:


Login as Administrator. Try with no password (load safe mode if you don't see Administrator). Press F8 during boot to access Safe Mode. XP only.
Login as other user (if other user is available) and manage users. Must be an administrator.
Reformat computer.
Use 3rd party software to remove password. Like http://www.top-password.com/reset-windows-password.html
Free software option would be Hirens Boot CD. This one is command prompt only. http://www.hirensbootcd.org/ Must follow instructions exactly.

You can log into your administrator account in safe mode and then delete your user account, then create a new account with another password.
To log into safe mode, power your computer and imediately press F8.
After a few seconds, list of options will be displayed, select Login with safe mode.

when booting after the post (beep) press the F8 key and load in safe mode. from there try and login as Administrator, 99% of computers have no password for that login. if you have the welcome screen just click on it, if you have the network login type in "Administrator"

from there you can goto the control panel access the user accounts and change/remove the passwords (this is based on the idea your computer is running xp/vista...based on data from hp i'm going to guess XP is what your running)

The first thing which you check if you forget login password. When we install Windows, it automatically creates an account "Administrator" and sets its password to blank. So if you have forget your user account password then try this:
Start system and when you see Windows Welcome screen / Login screen, press ctrl+alt+del keys twice and it'll show Classic Login box. Now type "Administrator" (without quotes) in Username and leave Password field blank. Now press Enter and you should be able to log in Windows.
Now you can reset your account password from "Control Panel -> User Accounts".
Same thing can be done using Safe Mode. In Safe Mode Windows will show this in-built Administrator account in Login screen.

turn on your unit..press f8 so that you can go to safe mode..
if you are in in safe mode press enter.
go start menu click control panel..users account..
change your password or remove your pasword.

Vista login password or bios password before windows has started?

try pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL two times
you should get a difrent login screen,
Try to login with Administrator
there shouldnt be password there unless you have set one.
ones you are loged in you can change the user password by

holding down the windows key and pressing r
then typeing

net user username *

example

net user ekse *

it will ask you to enter a new password for the user.
