PHILIPS 42PFL7662D/05 FAULT. Blank screen, totally black but with perfect sound. Girlfriend reckons she heard a pop when she turned the tv on. Any ideas?

Symptom: Sound but no picture.

We have the same telly and had the same problem. Ours was bought Jan 08. It can be repaired, as we had ours returned from the philips repair specialist yday, but it cost £190.
Common problem with the older projection Magnavox TV set. The opto IC chip has failed. Try www.magnavoxhelp.com - They have instructions and kits on their site.
Question when u loose picture do u loose sound also ? If so there is an 27Mhz xtal on the (SSB) small signal board that needs to be changed when it heats up it cycles out of phase. when it cools down it will work again till it heats up.
