The T-com board went after 2 years and I have been abandoned by Sony. Price to fix was $1000 more than I paid for TV. Great while it worked but not so now especially after Sony said...Sorry!!! we'll give you $200 off another set but we refuse to repair. Anyone else have this problem?

SOURCE: SONY KDL-52xbr4 - lcd panel shot after 17 months

This can be the panel itself, and or the matrix decoder/driver boards. The cost of this type of repair can approach the cost of a new set. From your description, I am thinking it is the panel itself that has failed.

Parts for your set are from Sony only because there is no third party manufacturing for these types of parts and assemblies.

Usually, when these types of sets become defective they are usually not worth servicing. During warranty the manufactures generally give a new set to the client, or they give a re-built set which has been built up using parts and modules from other sets that came back for service and had different types of problems.

If you know a tech is is good at servicing these types of set, maybe he can find a number of scrapper set of the same model to take parts from. You just have to hope the ones he finds have the same types of fault.

The issue is caused by the optical block. It was an inherent issue in the TV and cannot be fixed without replacing the optical block. It usually costs about $1000 for parts and labor. It is impossible to fix without the part as it is an inherent irreversible issue.

The TV starts to have problems with the optical block after a certain number of hours, you did not have this problem until much later because of limited use.

Sony did extend the warranty for the optical block parts and labor but it expired on 6/30/08. The only option you really have is to keep contacting Sony, explain to them your situation and they might cave in to paying for part of the repair due to special circumstances.

SOURCE: Sudden loss of picture and sound on 40

I do not think T-Con can shut down TV, all it can do to blank the screen, I mean stop picture data towards LCD panel.
Sony would not give T-Con separately as its counted part of LCD Panel but its available in some part shops.
Let me know model number of TV and what boards you have been replaced in TV.
Are these power supply and main boards.
Thanks.

Testimonial: "Thanks so much for the speedy response. I don't know which 2 boards they replaced, but will find out. Thanks again "
