Check that your power supply/AC adpater is plugged in and working. It could be that you are running on the battery only and if the battery is drained, it tries to start then shuts down again.
Hi George, I still think it is an adapter/battery issue. Does the battery charging LED come on when you plug in the adapter? Does the adapter get hot, showing that it is working vs when not plugged in? Do you known anyone with an Inspiron that you can swop out adapters with to see if that's the problem. Have a look if the pin that plugs in to the adapter is bent? Wiggle the cable near the pin a few times when the pin is plugged in to see if the charging LED comes on etc.

Glad to hear it is starting up. If you go to the Dell Diagnostics page, (See link below) and download and run the "Hard-Drive" option, see if it comes up with errors. It could be either BIOS or CPU-related. Let us know how it goes. Rgds

Have left the laptop connected to the power all night so the battery must be charged. Still won't switch on
Tried removing the battery but leaving the power connected . Still won't switch on
Any more thoughts ??
guess what the laptop fired up this morning,although an error message was displayed [ Error Code M1004 ] what dose this mean ?
Have changed the PC setting to hibernate now .

Hi George Can you confim if this is happening whilst you have the power lead plugged into the socket?, if not you may need to do this as the battery will need to be charged/replaced Please can i ask that you leave feedback and vote if this has been useful
