The error light indicates something is wrong with the machine. The error light in combination with another light indicated that the problem lies with that item.
If there is an issue with a job not being able to be printed you can press the go button to allow it to continue (Normally happens if you send a job to the printer using paper other than what the printer has in it)
Brother Hl 2140 Printing on thick paper, labels and envelopes 2 When the back output tray is pulled down, the printer has a straight paper path from the manual feed slot through to the back of the printer. Use this paper feed and output method when you want to print on thick paper, labels or envelopes.
Open the back cover
Open the manual feed slot cover.
Using both hands, slide the manual feed slot paper guides to the width of the paper that you are going to use.
Using both hands, put one piece of paper or one envelope in the manual feed slot until the front edge of the paper or envelope touches the paper feed roller. When you feel the machine pull in the paper, let go.
• Put the paper into the manual feed slot with the side to be printed face up. • Make sure that the paper or envelope is straight and in the proper position on the manual feed slot. If it is not, the paper or the envelope may not be fed properly, resulting in a skewed printout or a paper jam. • Do not put more than one piece of paper in the manual feed slot at any one time, as it may cause a jam. • If you put any Media (paper, envelope and so on) in the manual feed slot before the printer is in the Ready state, the media may be ejected without being printed on.
If the error light is flashing it means that Either there is a paper jam in the machine or the back or front cover is open.
If the error light is ON, it means that there is no paper in tray one or manual tray. Some times from certain programs it will ask the printer for the manual tray because it feels that the margins are too big.
Try putting a piece of paper in the manual feed slot above the paper tray.
If the light is steady (not flashing), it means a paper problem. Either the paper tray is empty, or maybe the document you're trying to print is set to 'manual feed.' If the latter, then modify the page setup in properties, to use the defult paper tray.
Got the same problem, but in fact it WAS a paper jam. Open both the back panel (can you see the orange roller clearly? If so, no jam) and the front panel. Grab the handle and take out the toner and drum and check there is no paper. Chances are there will be.
