Which screw needs to be adjusted for azimuth head adjust on an Onkyo Integra TA-R77 deck. Service manual just says to adjust azimuth screw without indicating which one or where it is.

    marsrover,

thanks for your input. I was wondering if you could be a bit more specific as to where the ***** is located. Is it on the side of the head as your looking in and what side is it on? Thank you.

the best way to align the heads with with a 10khz alignment tape and an oscilloscope.

No Picture, just sound. Would a head adjustment help? where is the head adjustment made?

NO!! Do not adjust any of the azimuth settings on the guide arms or control head this will only cause more problems. It sounds as if you just have dirty heads, either try a head cleaner tape, or better try to clean them by hand. Remove the cabinet cover & the head drum is the round silver drum sitting in the centre. Either use isopropal alcahol or something similar & very GENTLY use something non-fabric ( a piece of clean card will do) put a small amount of the fluid on the card & wipe the side of the drum, put very Light pressure on the drum you can damage the haeds if you are too rough, this should clean the heads.

Gunk fused to record & playback heads of Onkyo cassette deck

The best cleaner for heads is Servisol Video 40. You can get it from Maplin's UK or Amazon.

Quiet right channel when playing pre-recorded tape.

With the deck in play mode put your finger on the imput of the channel that is low. If it buzzers the same as the other then you may have a faulty head. If it does not there is something wrong in the amp stages of the deck. You can also reverse the leads from the head and if the sound goes down on the other channel it is the head. Try doing it where the leads join with the PC Board, it will be less messing than at the head itself.

Azimuth Adjustment on Tascam 122MKIII Cassette Deck

the screws are sometimes locked with Loctite or similer and the screw slot may be blocked up also. wetting the screw head with acetone will help to allow for the blocked screw head to soften. BE CAREFUL WITH ACETONE. it will damage plastic!!
