Tyan S3992 MOBO with scsi drives and tape drive

Having issues installing the tape drive on this board. It has a PCI riser in it due to the request for SCSI drives to be installed and they were installed without any issue. The issue arises whenever we put a 2nd device (the tape drive) on the PCI riser. It only detects that PCI slot and completely ignores the OS and gives boot errors. Is it possible to somehow get the BIOS/POST to recognize BOTH PCI slots so as to get the tape drive to be recognized and the OS to boot off of the SCSI chanel in the 1st PCI slot?

Only if your BIOS supports booting off the particular device. You could also try to swtich the two PCI slots. Put the tape drive controller in the 1st slot, and the SCSI controller in the 2nd slot.

Which tape drive is it? Is there a firmware update for the BIOS for that PCI controller? I would perhaps contact the vendor of the tape drive/controller

Hi I have a supermicro x8sti Server Board inside

Basically you have two choices for installation of video card:
1. To purchase small form factor PCIe card suitable for installation on 1U server chasis or
2. Purchase PCI express riser card and to install most full-sized PCI Express cards (Check this link for PCI Riser )

I am thinking of buying a Tyan motherboard that has an option of installing the Tyan Riser Card 2091. My question how is the expansion card attached to the motherboard. The manual makes no mention of...

You dont mention what you wish to use this motherboard for.
Most if not all tyan motherboard are for servers. This is of little use to the average computer user.
Try looking on google "tyan riser card m2041"

Need to Make Intel DG35EC MoBo Boot From a SCSI Drive

In your bios change the boot order so that your SCSI drive is listed in the #1 slot. Save and exit. This will tell your system to always look at this drive first when booting up. Hope this helps.

Tyan S5396 and Thermaltake 1500W

tyan i5400xt.. to test for ground.. pull the board from the chassis and test with a different known good power supply

if the boot works... then you have a power supply issue...

does the board have a post code lighted signal ???

if so.. a bad power supply should goto FF error code

verify you have enough power on the cpu rail with your power supply specifications also

be sure you have all cables 4 pin 8 pin and 20/24 pin connections done correctly.. lastestly check if the board is touching the chassis edge anywhere... could cause a ground

also take and loosen all the MB screws from the chassis.. just let it hang there this will test the grounds needs the screw connections

My Storegtek L80 can't recognize all of its tape drives

That thing required a SCSI terminator pack doesn't it.

If so, is it working properly.

I've had those things go out on me before leaving me to pull my hair out many times.

SONY LIB-81 Error on LCD screen - Drive Information 51

I think this sounds like the drive is having a issue loading and moving the tape in slot 1.
AIT units are known for having this kind of problem.
Try a cleaning tape and then a new tape fresh out the wrapper for a test backup.

if it fails with a known good tape then its time to send it out for repair
