Gateway 7405gx Integrated Wireless - How do I check BIOS?

Gateway 7405gx Integrated Wireless does not turn on ever since I started using a Rocketfish universal adapter, with specs that match my laptop. The Fn and F2 buttons are not broken and I can get internet just fine thru a wired connection. How do I check BIOS to make sure the integrated wireless is enabled/turned on?

When booting you hit the F2 or Delete button. Keep in mind that the Fn Button might have to be held down at the same time as you clicking the F2 button.
Timing is also key start tapping the F2 before you even hit the power button.

Driver wireless notebook

An internal wireless card lets you access the Internet and a home or corporate computer network without the hassle of using an Ethernet or other type of network connection.

The wireless card grabs the communication signal flowing throughout the air and processes the signal through your Gateway PC's Windows operating system so you can access websites, email and related Internet-based services.

But like other devices in your computer, you must turn on the internal wireless card in your Gateway PC before using it.

Turn on your computer, if it is off.

Press and hold the "Fn" key on your computer's keyboard.
Press the "F2" key in the upper row of keys on your keyboard.

The wireless Internet card's connection utility will start searching for a wireless signal.
Connecting to a Signal

Click "Start," "Connect To."
If your Gateway PC is running Windows 7, click on the Windows symbol on the taskbar. Click "Control Panel," "Network and Internet," "View network status and tasks."

Click on the wireless connection you want to connect to.

If using Windows 7, click on "Connect to a network," then click on the wireless connection you want to connect to.

Click "Connect." Enter the wireless connection's network password (SSID), if prompted. Click "Next."

Click "Connect Anyway," if prompted with a message about the connection not being secure.

Click "Close." Open your Gateway PC's Internet browser or email application to start using the Internet connection.

you will need to update or install the driver or it could be firewalled.

Make sure your antivirus program is not blocking the internet connection.

If you are trying to connect through a modem/router you it should have come with a disk then
you might have to connect the usb lead to your modem to get a connection then

Click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll to network adapters should see a yellow question ? exclamationmark! or a red Xright click install drivers.

The driver might be on the disc supplied by your ISP internet service provider
or the motherboard disc

You should push the FN key down while pushing the F2 key. This will enable the wireless if you have that option installed.

Fn F2 combo does not turn on wireless internet on Gateway 7405GX

There should be, i.e as in via the Network Connections in Windows. Check i Device Manager if ALL is well ad Enabled, i.e the Wireless Device.

Also you might want to enable it via BIOS setup, especially if it is Onboard and not a Plug-in Device for Wireless Connection such as a PCMCIA Wireless NIC, etc etc.

Right Clicking on Icons often reveals many shortcuts to what you can do, eg Properties of the Wireless Network Connections Enable, Disable, Status, Repair and so on.

Take your time and learn what hidden alternatives there are to navigating thru Windows.

Hopefully you'll be able to fix the problem if not already done so.

Gateway GM 5084 Ethernet

Are the drivers installed? Look in your device manager for the drivers. You might need a new Ethernet card. Also check in the BIOS to see if it is turned on. Try hitting the delete key or one of the F keys when it starts to get to the BIOS.

Gateway 7405gx boot failure

Hi Dan -

On this particular Gateway series of laptops, there is actually a bios "chip" you can replace entirely. It's sitting in a cradle right next to where the keyboard connects to the mobo (square black chip, one angled corner). It's very easy to pop out and replace, and is definitely something I would try.

You can do a search on eBay for "gateway bios chip" and you should have some luck.

I hope all goes well.
