Display backlite works, but there is nothing on the screen. when i try to troubleshoot it on my computer it tells me there are no drivers installed should there be drivers and where can i get it

I think you could have loaded the driver for a different model with 16:10 aspect ratio. Uninstall that driver.
Can you connect using the DVI port - get a DVI cable if your computer has a DVI port. If your computer has HDMI get a HDMI-DVI cable. DVI port will display max resolution - even without driver.
The most likely reason why you cannot change the screen resolution and a higher bit color is the incorrect video driver was installed on the computer.

there is an inbuilt hardware diagnostic..
turn the computer off then hold Fn + power button to turn it back on.. it will automatically initiate PSA diagnostics.. will beep and ask you if u see the colour bar displayed.. if u see them respond accordingly or else.. let it run.. within 10 minutes you'll get an error if its hardware glitch.. call dell tech support at 1800-624-9896 and tell the error code.. they will replace the lcd kit by sending a tech at your place.
see frnd it generally occurs when graphics display driver is not installed in urs computer.....

no drivers are needed for monitor. Its the video card drivers that you should look for at the dell drivers and downloads website. make sure that you have the right driver installed so that you may be increase your screen resolution.You may also use your Dell Resource CD Drivers and utilities. Install the Resource cd, On the TOPICS dropdown box, select drivers,You'll know which drivers needs to be installed because they will have a check mark infront of the correct device driver. Clicke extract button after you have chosen the video driver. You may need to scroll down.Restart the computer.
