Hi all,
I accidentally plug in a 110V Companion 5 system into a 220V supply (Asia region) and was told by my technician that the motherboard could be spoilt now. May I check is there any source that I could purchase a replacement 110V motherboard online?

Hi,
While I can not second guess your technician, perhaps the problem may not be that severe. The Bose Companion 5 is only on standby when plug (having no power switch) and therefore the power supply circuitry is the only one working. Chances are it will be only the +5VDC logic supply that is really turned on at that instant. All others would be OFF hence my belief that the problem may be limited to the PSU and/or part of the logic board. Perhaps you can suggest to your tech to test the logic board (motherboard) using an external +5 supply. All others can be be tested and repaired using component replacement.
Should you not be comfortable going this route, perhaps you best bet would then be to get in touch with Bose or their local representative.

Hi all,
After some time working out a solution by sending to several technicians to have a look and non are able to fix the problem, as the Companion 5 are somehow "sealed" after the fuse area.
After few complaints to the Bose Customer Service, the local distributor finally initiated to send an email to me, offering to diagnose the system and replace accordingly on charging basis (of course as I did not bought the system from them). I have to go through this route because they initially rejected my request of service as they stated some local authority rules does not allow them to fix a 120V system!!
All the hassles in the end was replacement of motherboard and power supply failure due to the high voltage induced. So, an expensive lesson learnt for about USD 250... However, thumbs up for the local distributor for the pace of their work.
