I would also suggest downloading the manual. I have my answering service thru att and I call a phone # assigned to me to check messages at any time.

Same thing happened to me. Here's what I did: 1) Unplug phone. 2) Remove backup battery. 3) Wait at least 5 minutes. 4) Plug phone back in and insert battery.
Step 3 is important. I only waited about a minute the first time and the problem remained.
Check the battery on all the phones then make sure they are all programmed with different extension numbers. If the battery has been dead and you have had a power outage then it may have reset the phone to factory default extension 11.
How do I change the number of rings on the phone before it goes into voice mail? If I am not beside the phone, after 2 rings it will go into voice mail and I am missing calls. The model is AT&T 974.
