Because I wanted to check my purchase of 5 of your CD_ROMS as to what I was buying for friends working in Zambia, I downloaded the Composition CD-ROM in my computer & liked it. Will they be able to use it after my partial use of it? I don't want them to have problems with their computer as help is hard to come by in that area. Also can these be downloaded on a memory stick to avoid using up memory space on their computer?

Have you checked your CD roms? Maybe they are already defective. Try running them in a CD player to see if they run smoothly.
Sometimes, the onboard driver update mechanism isn't that consistent with its result. I suggest that you use RadarSync to scan your computer to see if your drivers are updated.
RadarSync is a specialized PC Driver Update Software. You can scan your computer using the free version but if you want it to update the drivers then you can buy a year or two years subscription of the software to keep your drivers updated.

The ribbon cable you speak of is also called an IDE cable or ATA parallel cable. They are the "older" types of connectors used for Hard-drives and CD-ROMs on Desktop PCs.. Based on the age of your Pc, you can either get a 40wire (older) or 80wire(newer) cable..but both will fit your CD ROM drive & motherboard just fine, as they both have 19pin connectors. You should be able to find 1 at a computer repair shop or retailer, or purchase one online for around $3

Hi, you can purchase cleaning CDs for your CDrom, if this does not work it probably meens your laser has gone and you will need to buy another one

Your friend probably reinstalled a "generic" version of Windows,
and did NOT use the CD-ROMs that were supplied by ACER with your computer.

If you still have those disks, maybe one of them is an "Applications" disk, and you can reinstall the "missing" applications from that CD-ROM.

Or, if you don't have that set of CD-ROMs, contact ACER, and order a replacement set. Usually, the fee is $20, plus the cost of courier-shipping.

Or, look at ACER's web-site -- they may make those applications available for free download.

CD-ROMs dont play dvd becuase they are not designed to read dvd.

If a dvd drive for your model is not available, you can buy an external usb dvd drive.

See listen kid...firstly this explanation is long, but it has every thing you need to know in detail...ok now we'll start the explanation.....there are many game boy emulators which you can download
the best one for a game boy rom (the game files are called roms) is 'visualboy advance' known popularly as 'vba' for short(I think the latest version is 1.7.2 but any version will do). To play a rom(gameboy game file) double click the icon and a window might appear saying if you want to run the file, cilck run, then another window will appear, click file from the menu, then click open/open gameboy(same thing), then search for the rom file(gameboy games file) and double click.

just scroll down a bit and you'll find 2 purple gamboy advance type icon thingys....click the first link then on the next page click the link you see then just follow the rest and download according to your computer system(for windows chose any of the first three links)

This emulator can play gameboy black and white games(file extension is .gb) , gameboy colour games(file extension is .gbc), and gameboy advance games(file extension is .gba) only!! not gameboy NDS, gameboy NES, or gameboy 64, for these gameboy games you need other emulators go to this site for emulators http://www.emulator-zone.com BUT games also have to be downloaded and this site does not offer copyright roms(gameboy games files)

but dont lose hope...there are other sites from which you can freely download roms(gameboy games files) you can download the games then try and see if they work on your emulator. If they work properly, then I WOULD SUGGEST YOU TO PLEASE BUY THE ORIGINAL GAME CARTRIDGE because it is actually ILLEGAL TO JUST DOWNLOAD THE GAME FOR FREE (I suppose you've heard of the word piracy or pirated cds??)to search for a game just type the game name followed by roms for example, you want the pokemon emrald game right?? so just type "pokemon emerald roms" in the search bar of a search engine(such as google) you may get a huge list but be patient and search through the sites and you'll find it. heres a site from me to you (^_^) http://www.mxemu.com/romshare.php
If you cant find any rom that you want then search another site.

And make sure that your anti-virus program is good or your computer could get infected and break down(and that is not what you want to happen...trust me)

Yes there are tooo many brands available in Market, who offers External USB DVD/Cd Roms . you can purchase it from any reputaded IT Store.
my suggestion is , you can go over there and ASK them for LACIE External Drive.
