My VCR/DVD, freeview box and non digital tv will show prerecorded video and DVD but will not record (or if it has it will not display). Could it be that the set up is not wired up correctly? The freeview...

Unless the Freeview box has two tuners then your going to have problems anyway when you want to record something and watch the non-digital TV at the same time. The solution is simple get another Freeview box (they are around £10 at the moment on E-Buyer.Com) get a box like this:

grubhead_17.jpg Available on Amazon (Scart switching box). This plugs into the TV or you can connect via one of the freeview boxes. Whatever works best.
The VCR has the other Freeview box connected to the second scart. (select AV2 when setting the channel to record and set the box to the channel you want to record) the first scart from the VCR plugs into the above box. When you want to watch press the switch.
By the way if the VCR has PDC on it set it to off, as it no longer works with digital.

Connecting up CRT TV, VCR, DVDR and digital box

Hi,
I think the better task is (A)
You can try switch scart's!! Then try to record on DVDR or leave as it is and look out for picture on your VCR!!! If you do (B) you will lose a picture quality!

I have a Toshiba DVR19DTKB DVD & VHS Recorder with Freeview , A SKY + Box, A Panasonic NV-SD240BL Video cassette recorder, A Samsung PS42B450B1W 42'' Plasma TV, and would like see a diagram of how all...

connect the aerial to the dvd/vcr/freeview combo, connect a scart from that to the tv, from the scart out socket.
you can then connect the sky from the scart marked tv to either the tv direct or to the combo if it has a second scart.
Note. a scart socket with an arrow going into a box is an input, coming out of the boe is an output and a double arrow is a two way scart.
if you use scart 2 on the tv to connect the combo, the combo will recieve a signal from the tv for recording.

Your dvd player should be connected to the TV INPUT under norma conditionsl. What kind of recorder are you using? VCR player ?, Is it also a VCR recorder ( one cannot assume because I happened to own a VHS\vcr PLAYER, not player & recorder)Is Your VCR recorder? Then It must be connected to freeview box with universal scart to RCA converter box.You have "" dvd player in av2, vcr av1"" where? TV? freeview box scart connector ?
You will need scart to RCA converter box for sure.

Dvd recorder

It is the signal that is digital not the TV, does your TV have a scart connection on the back? (a 2 rowed 21 pin female connection point).
That is the best way you can connect your DVD Rec. to it. The digital ready is just going to be DVB or something similar, which is just a form of digital freeview. Dont be conned by salesmen into buying a new TV with the DVD, as long as your TV was bought in the last decade or so it will have scart. If not you should just loop the RF out from the video into the DVD then out the DVD into the TV. But if you want to record from video to DVD you will have to connect the two by scart lead.

Similar problem as you helped me solve before.

OK, I think I see the problem there.
The aerial lead from the DVDR to TV should be removed.
You should have it setup the same as the other Freeview - VCR - TV
Nutshell time:
Main aerial to Freeview input.
Loop aerial from freeview output to DVDR areial input (all this does is allow you to watch freeview, or standard both out of the DVDR)
So..
Scart from Freeview to DVDR input
Scart from DVDR output to TV
Set DVDR to AV input mode.
Set TV to AV (whatever number you need for that..you now won't get anything on screen unless you have the right input selected)

If you can now see the Freeview picture on the TV and change the channels with the Freeview remote then you should be set for recording.

Having the aerial and a scart lead both going to the TV is not needed.

TV, freeview, DVD and video set up.

Hi.
Modern day freeview boxes rarely have A modulator in them so you can not tune it to a channel on your tv it must be connected using scart lead.
Most freeview boxes have 2 scart sockets one for VCR & one for TV plug your scart leads in to the scart sockets of freeview they will be labled TV & VCR.
The scart labled TV goes to scart socket on the TV labled AV1 or 1
The scart labled VCR goes to scart socket on VCR labled AV or IN
Now the aerial leads From wall socket to ANT in on freeview.
Then from RF out on freeview to ANT in on VCR.
Then RF out on VCR to ANT in on TV doing this will enable you to put TV on 9 to watch tapes.

The final scart will be from DVD to TV socket marked AV2

You will need to put TV on AV channel to view freeview.
To record freeview you must put VCR to EITHER line.av,aux. it will be one of those different manufacturers call them by varying names.
I have done this banking on your tv having 2 scart sockets if it only has 1 let me know & I will tell you how to wire it differently.
Please state make & model of TV set & VCR & what connections are available EG scart, Phono, Svhs etc.

Can't re patch tv with set top box to watch tv

Hi.

Ok here goes.

1) Take airial lead from the wall socket in to antenna in on freeview box.

2) connect short usually black airial type lead in to antenna out socket on freeview. plug the other end of this lead in to aerial in on vcr.

3) connect the other end of this aerial type lead to airial plug on the back of tv.

4) now if you have 2 or more scart sockets on the back of tv set plug in the scarts in this order.
Freeview box scart with tv on it connect to scart 1 on tv set.
Freeview box vcr scart connect to vcr in scart socket on vcr.
Vcr scart marked tv plug scart from here to scart 2 on tv
If you have 3 scart sockets on tv you can connect dvd using scart to scart socket 3 on tv.

If Tv has only 1 scart the aerial leads will stay the same as I have stated,
Freeview must go to scart socket on tv set.
leave second scart from freeview to vcr plugged in so you can record freeview by putting vcr to line 1 or AV 1.
you will need to put tv on channel (0) & tune this channel to the video play a tape that you recognise then go to tv tuning & tune tv untill you see video playing then store this on channel (0).
DO NOT USE AUTO TUNING IT WILL PUT CHANNELS IN THE WRONG ORDER JUST USE MANUAL TUNING.

Now to view Dvd you will either need to purchase A scart switch box. Or have keep unpluging freeview scart from tv so you can plug in dvd .

If your tv has red yellow white phono sockets you can plug dvd in to these, you may need to purchase phono leads.

Hope this helps.

Can't tune stations from freeview box to DVDR3380/5

You can only record freeview channels through your box.

Assuming the digi-box has two scart sockets, connect as follows:

  • Scart 1 or TV scart of the digi-box to the TV.
  • Scart 2 or VCR/DVD scart of the digi-box to scart 1 of the DVDR3380.
The TV aerial should already be connected through the digi-box and DVDR3380 to the TV

To record from the digi-box, select AV1 / E1 / EXT1 on the DVDR3380
If you are doing timer recordings, you will also need to leave the freeview box on the channel you wish to record, or set the freeview box timer.
