I picked up the following info on Google.
Dees
Canon ink level monitor - how to disable

Most Canon Pixma printers including MP500, 510, 520, 530, 540, 600, 620, 630, 640, 800, 810, 830, 960, 970, 980, 990, MG5150, 5250, 6150, 8150, MX700, 850, 860, iP4200, 4300, 4500, 4600, 4700, 4850, 5200, 5300, 6600, 6700, iX5000, PRO9000 etc. are programmed to stop printing, before any ink tank runs out of ink.

Refilling the Canon CLI-8, CLI-521, CLI-526, PGI-5, PGI-520, PGI-525 ink tanks doesn't reset the ink levels in printer software, so the printer may not print - even if all ink tanks are full. All the ink information comes from a small IC chip fitted to each ink tank. There is no connection between actual ink levels and the ink level monitor (ink gauge).

To make the printer work again, you can:

1) fit a new ink tank (or chip)
2) reset the "empty" chip back to full using a
chip resetter (if available for your printer model)
3) use auto-reset ink tanks/chips (if available for your printer model)
4) Disable the ink monitor.

It's easy to disable the ink monitor...

Simply read and follow the messages from your printer (on screen) similar to ones shown below. If you use a multi function (MP) printer, the messages should display on the printer LCD panel.

Important: When ink monitor is disabled, ink level indicator (for that ink tank) disappears and the printer will not stop printing, when out of ink. Inspect ink level in each tank periodically (by removing it) to avoid running out!

Note: Ink level monitor function will be restored to normal by fitting a new ink tank (or chip).

1) When the printer software decides one of the ink cartridges is empty, you should get this message (or similar). If it doesn't appear straight after refilling, don't worry. The printer doesn't see the cartridge(s) as empty - yet. Just keep using the printer as usual...and wait for the message to pop up.

Click OK to continue...

2) Then you will get this message:

Click Yes to continue...

3) Then you should get this message:

Click Yes to continue...

4) Finally you should get this message:

Press the "Resume" (flashing) button on the printer...and start printing. That's it!

If your printer doesn't have a Resume button, use the OK , Stop, Cancel or whichever button you would use
to clear "out of paper" etc errors. Hold the button until the LED stops flashing or the message disappears.

Note: You will have to repeat the whole process with every cartridge that goes empty (first time only).

Canon chip resetters are now available for PGi-5, PGi-520, CLi-8 & CLi-521 ink tanks.

How to refile the cartridge of canon pixma ip1300 printer

Hi,
Instructions :
  1. Remove the old ink jet cartridge from the printer following the manufacturer instructions. Close the lid on the printer to keep it free from dust and debris while you are refilling the Canon ink cartridge.
  2. Locate the ink tank on the cartridge. Put a 3mm drill bit in a drill. Drill a hole in the top of the ink tank on the cartridge.
  3. Gently insert the needle on the bottle of ink into the hole you just drilled in the ink cartridge. Avoid squeezing the bottle until the needle is completely inserted in the ink tank.
  4. Squeeze the ink bottle gently to refill the cartridge. Fill the tank with a little at a time until the cartridge is full.
  5. Remove the needle from the ink tank. Wipe the top of the Canon ink cartridge off with a paper towel. Place a small piece of duct tape over the drilled hole. Rub the tape to remove air bubbles and to make sure it adheres to the cartridge.
  6. Put the refilled ink cartridge back into the printer. Clean the head of the printer by running the printer software and following the instructions for head cleaning.
Good Luck!
