small beta tape stuck in uvw-1800. HOW DO I GET IT OUT?!?!??

  • raerae28 Nov 26, 2008

I have a tape stuck in a betacam sp bvw-75.

How do I eject the tape?

    Thanks

I keep getting an error 3 on my PVW 2800p beta cam deck. I understand that the error is: The slack or breaking of the tape is detected in recording or playback mode, or either of the lock of the supply or take-up reel is detected, and then tape protection is done. Does that mean I need to take it in for a service or is there something I can do in the office to solve the problem?

Use menu system to access "manual eject". Hold left arrow key and press menu to access menu. Follow from there.

I hate SONY, every piece of equipment I've bought from them always lets me down from mini DV tapes in the store, to Beta SP tapes, to UVw1800 decks. I've gone through every process in the menu, and nothing helped get the tape out. The last message was "Turn the power off and remove the cassette compartment while holding the lid of the cassette open." Once again, I HATE SONY WITH A PASSION. I removed the lid, unscrewed the screws. The tape compartment moved around a little, but I'm not yanking the thing out at risk of breaking something causing even worse damage. Fidgeted with it some more and to no avail I could not remove the stupid tape compartment. I finally went back to the menu section, found my way to CASS-COMPARTMENT , selected that and it ejected my tape by ripping apart the tape reel. I don't know whether to take a sledge hammer do this deck, or get ripped off from some **** techincal shop charging more money for what its worth to fix the miserable peace of . . . equipment.

One of your reel motors died. Most likely the takeup side. If You can't get the tape out by the menu solution, remove the top panel, unthread the tape by rotating the loading motor which is in the rear right corner towards yourself. If the tape doesn't spool back into the
cassette by now you need to do this by using the menu. If you find the "cassette motor" check you might be able to use that to use the one functioning cassette motor to get the tape reeled in to the cassette. Pay attention to the arm that swings out in the middle in front of the drum. It's the "tension arm" and it tends to hang up after about 10 years when the grease in it hardens. If you see that happen the cure could be manually pulling it back while the tape unthreads. Oiling that joint afterwards could keep
it from happening again.

Sony UVW 1800 error code 02-403 - tape is out, code won't go away

Error 02-403 is "tape slack in ff/rew". Although you were able to get the tape out, the threading ring may not have returned to the unthread position. With the power disconnected and the top of the deck off, look at the mechanism; on the right side, there is a small gray motor with a black wheel in front of it. By turning this wheel, you will be able to make the threading ring turn; turn it so the ring goes clockwise. When the ring has gone as far as it can, it will be in its unthread position, and the deck will probably work normally.

Sony Beta sp deck 1800 wont take larger tape down

Most likely problem when a Beta SP deck won't take the large tapes is a bad cable in the cassette housing. Replacement isn't too difficult, and the cable only costs about $20.00.

Tape stuck in sony uvw-1800

02-874 error code signifies a defective takeup reel. The reel is not winding the tape in, so the deck won't go through the eject procedure. Check the connection to the takeup reel motor; if that's OK, the motor itself may be bad. Rarely, the takeup reel motor assembly will need to be replaced; usually it's a connection problem.

Beatcam SP error message

BVW-75 error 09 is "threading motor time out". Look for something obstructing the travel of the threading ring inside the deck (the ring which pulls the tape around the video head).

UVW-1800 SONY VTR - s-reel error

Both these error codes indicate a problem with the supply reel motor.
The first code (02-058) indicates that the reel motor is drawing too much current, which could be caused by a bad motor, defective driver circuit, or even a bad tape. The second code (02-803) indicates tape slack, caused by the defective supply reel motor. FIRST thing to check would be a possible bad tape. Try different tapes and see if the problem persists. If it does, it may be time to find a technician.
