I did what you suggested; the timer light just started blinking after 5 seconds...still it will not turn on...no code appeared/flashed

  • tonyomaha Feb 23, 2008

It does not appear that there is any leaking coolant.

But as for the the blinking lights. What's next.

  • tonyomaha Feb 23, 2008

It does blink when you hold the menu and input bottons down, like you said.. Is there any way I could find the manual online?

That model is famous for the CRTs leaking coolant onto the chassis. Unplug the set and look at the circuit boards with a strong flashlight. See if you can spot any wet or sticky residule on the chassis from leaking coolant. It should be very easy to spot the leakage if present should be on the upper portion of the circuits closer to the screen directly under the picture tubes. Let me know what you find out.

If it doesnt blink any code that means its not going into protective shutdown. Its most likely a power supply problem ether the horizontal or regulator transistors are probaly at fault. Do you have the service manual for this model? I can give you pointes to check, but you will need the service manual. I will post a link where you can get one emailed to you.

Frst thing is to check the start up voltages. The manual will have the various voltages required. You will need to check for standby voltages and run voltages. They should be outlined in the power supply section of the manual. I will post more specific info this afternoon.

Check the cathode of diode D970 for 4 VDC. check Resistor R974 for 32VDC then the cathode of D741 for 18VDC and finally check pin 1 of IC952 for 130VDC Let me know what you find.

Page 61 of the manual. the parts arelocated on the main PC board where the power plug entersthe set is the main PC board

They could be. Check them for coninuity with an ohms meter if they dont register they are bad.

The voltages I mentioned earlier have to be verified if the fuses turn out allright. If those voltages are not right then its a simple task to trace it back to whats preventing the set from operating.Something such as a regulator or diode can mess up the voltages that will prevent the set from powering up.

24 Is the code for vertical deflection failure. Thats why your set isnt working. That could just be bad solder on the vertical output IC which is IC451 on the main PC board or you may need a new IC I would try resoldering it first.

Mitsubishi VS-50609 won't turn on

What a great tv this is Mitsubishi did a fine job making this one, but......only an authorized mitsubishi servicer should repair it. This set records diagnostic led codes that the technician receives to help determine where the problem might be, not the problem, but in which circuit it might be. The one thing to try is, unplug the tv , let it set for a minute, plug it back in , turn it on and hope it reset the micro. Next , call for mits. service.

Mitsubishi VS50605 rear projection TV won't come on

The power supply caps in the light engine power supply were faulty when they were installed. You need to remove the power supply and take it to your local electronics shop where they can remove the (7) faulty 1000uf 16v electrolytic capacitors and insert new ones. If you remove the power supply yourself (takes only a philips screwdriver) and reinstall it yourself, the electronics shop shouldn't charge you for more than an hour worth of time. The caps would be about $10.

Here's a photograph (thanks Don Crawford).

Timer light is flashing but tv wont turn on!

When the timer light stoped flashing the remote control would not turn on the TV. The next time the light quit flashing I held the power button in on the TV for about 5 seconds and it came on and has had no problems since then with the remote or the local TV power button.

Mitsubishi vs-50609 wont stay powered on

Hello nicolastran,

I gave this advice to someone with this same problem so here it is again:

It sounds like your shutdown circuit is being activated. This is due to excess current being drawn. This usually happens in the High Voltage section of the TV or one of the deflection stages. Due to the nature of this problem I would suggest that you take it to a local TV repair shop or have a TV repair person come out and take a look at the issue. The HV section is dangerous and should be dealt with by a qualified TV repair technician.

Thank you,
I hope this helps
