If you can't set the alarm function follwing the instructions of a new watch, might mean that this watch is defective and should be covered by warranty. If you mess with it, you'll lose the right to claim warranty service, so should return it to the shop where you bought it or take it to authorized servce according to warranty terms.
If the spring is missing, you can wind a temporary one out of extremely fine coil wire around a sewing needle . If watch case is closed and alarm does not sound try stretching the coil slightly. If alarm comes on keep stretching coil a bit further to see if alarm gets louder. Similarly, coil may be too long if alarm does not go on. Then gently squeeze coil a little smaller and put case back together again to check alarm. If it is too soft then squeeze the coil a little more.
There is definitely a sweet spot for coil length whether hand made or store bought. Lots of fiddling but it works.
Hey Malcolm, just bought this watch so I hope it is the same. Press the MODE button (bottom left) until you get AL. Then press the STAR/LAP (top left) this gives you the options of turning it off : ON with Alarm or ON with Alarm and CHM (I think this is the hourly chim) or OFF. (Located above the Quicksilver brand mark) Hope this helps! Carla
From the normal time position, press Mode and the AL function will come up which is where you set the alarm. Instead of pressing SET, press the up arrow. Each time you press the up arrow it changes function. When the alarm function is on a little bell appears above the colon in the time. The snooze has a ZZ that appears below the colon. The unique feature of this clock, is that it is the only one I have seen where the alarm works in the time zone selected. Most others, the alarm only works the home time zone, not the selected time zone. This is a huge improvement.
Twist the crown until you can pull it back one notch. This will set the alarm by twisting in one direction. If you twist it in the other direction, you will set the date. Pull back one more notch and this will set the time. One you've done this, push and tighten the crown back in and press the bottom right hand button. The second hand should begin moving.
what you have to do is
1. press the mode button until you get to the setting that has "AL" at the bottom right.
2. then you press the "receive" button to switch between the four alarms.
3. as you are going through each alarm time, you need to look in the circle at the top right. When you are going through the alarm times, if there is a mark next to "ALM", you need to press the "time memo" button so that the mark next to "ALM" is no longer there.
4. repeat step fout for all of the alarms, and the problem should be fixed.
