Hi, I have a Samsung LN40A550 LCD TV which I have had for just over a year. ... Sounds like The main power supply regulator section circuit fault. Either it will be a separate board, or the part of main board. Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis rather than making "Surgery" to it; which usually will make loss for both money and time. Even though you can make it right, it will cost around an amount equal to the cost of a new board; including the cost of (spare parts + service charge) More to say, most of the spare parts to it will be difficult to get from open electronic spare part market. This is true to most of the flat panel TV power supply boards; irrespective of its brand and screen size.

hello it sound like you've got convergance trouble have you tryed convergance setting if so and this hasn't worked the you will have to change the convergance chips get an engineer to give you quote it's a big job trust me i've done a couple myself all the best

A 1995 60 inch rca good picture and sound. Then it started a cracking noise and a hissing sound, then the picture went blurry. then it was nice picture and sound, then it died. took the back off and turned out the lights. Plugged the tv in and out from the wall socket and there was a sparking noise and a small arc when i plugged it in and out a few times ,at the part that the power plug plugs into.The white part that is beside the white power plug part has thick red wire coming out of it and goes into another plug that has more red wires in it. but the big white part beside the power plug part looks burnt and has black powder on it. that part is probably the problem but maybe not, what it the name of that part and how much would it cost and is it plugged in or soldered.

It sounds like at least one of 3 "IHVT",s popped. in short, a "IHVT" is a high voltage transformer. It will have to be replaced along with any other parts that were damaged in the process.
They do produce a strong odor when they pop!!

It is repairable but at a price. there is a good chance that parts will have to be ordered.

you might consider buying a new LCD HDTV instead of fixing this one.
