The problem is the 3 prong wires on there are not color coded except for a green wire that is separate from the other 3 but not attached to the plug. And on the 4 prong plug the wires are color coded and have 4 wires instead of 3. How do I hook the 4 prong cord wires up? The dryer is only about 3 years old, nothing fancy.
The following link explains how to correctly install a 220VAC appliance cord to your dryer:

Read through the instructions provided and let me know if you have questions. This advice is how to convert from a 3 prong to a 4 prong appliance cord. You simply match the corresponding colors of the wires on the cord you intend to attach to the matching colors at the terminal block on the back of the dryer. If the wires are not color coded at the terminal block, the outer two wires (left and right) are the HOT leads, the center wire is the Neutral. Make sure the neutral ad ground wires remain independent of each other in a 4 wire configuration. The green wire should be terminated on a ground lug on the equipment cabinet while the neutral is terminated at the terminal block.
Let me know if you require further assistance. I hope this help you.
RED - HOT (120VAC)
BLACK - HOT (120VAC)
WHITE - NEUTRAL (0 VAC)
GREEN (or BARE COPPER) - GROUND
At the terminal block the outer two connections (LEFT and RIGHT) are the HOT leads. The center terminal is NEUTRAL. Ground will be connected to a ground lug on the equipment cabinet.
NOTE: If there is a ground strap connected to the neutral terminal at the terminal block REMOVE it.

Ok this sort of helps. The 4 prong cord has colored wires, green, red, black and white just the dryer terminal block doesn't. So just to make sure which colors are the hot leads and which is the neutral color. I think I know but just want to make sure. Thanks.
