"Root" means the player is reading the Root Menu of the Disc, which contains the title information, chapter information, etc - it is nothing to worry about.

On a magnavox mdv 460 dvd player what does it mean when the word root is on dvd srceen ?

'Root' is normally the name of the baseline user name for computer operating systems. It sounds like the system has somehow gotten into a programming mode. Here is a link to the manual:
file:///home/chronos/u-11d96e023a6a8125518c9809892ca210f39fcc9f/Downloads/mdv460.pdf

Please refer to page 38 about upgrading the software. You may want to try the remote code to see if the system will return to normal operations.

Dvd wont play disc root comes up?

When you load the DVD, instead of the content loading, the word "Root" comes up? This means the content is either corrupted, the disc is dirty, or damaged. In other words, the laser is not able to reach and pick up the magnetic information on the disc. Does this happen with another DVD player? Try doing that first. In the meantime, clean the disc. If the disc can't be read by another DVD player, then the disc is at fault. If another DVD player can load the disc with no problem, the original DVD player you used, may have a dirty lens (what the laser shoots out of), or the laser is not moving at all. If this is the case, the DVD player is broken.

My dvd player wont turn on

Unplug the unit - look underneath disc tray for an oblong shaped hole with another pinhole or plastic white piece down inside - use screwdriver to move the white piece to other side of oblong - disc should eject. Then try plugging dvd player in and try again.

My philips dvd player has stopped playing CD's and DVD's and on the display screen it shows "root". i have had this DVD player for 16months. Can you help me?? cheers

Usually "ROOT" is an indication that the player has read the DVD.

ROOT means that the DVD is in the main menu screen.

Sounds like the DVD player is ok, but you may have a loose connection somewhere.

Check all of your AV connections between the TV and DVD.

Also make sure that the TV is set to the same AV channel as the connection you are using.
E.G. if you have connected the DVD to the AV 1 socket of the TV, make sure that the TV is set to channel AV 1.
