Kenmore Elite bottom freezer refridgerator

My fridge will not cool. The freezer cools fine but the digital display to adjust the temp for both the fridge and freezer does not work. When I plug it in the fridge stays ambient temp while the freezer goes down to 3 degrees. I did replace the circuit board that sits inside of the digital display unit.

kenmoore model 76523 , ss bottom freezer. this unit is about 2 years old. suddenly the refrigerator completely stopped cooling but the freezer is fine, the lights work correctly but the digital display does not change temp control on any settings. I disconnected the power for an hour, i was then able to change all control settings but the refrigerator still not working. then after an hour the controls would not adjust anymore only display numbers and temp. would alarm .note; the freezer works but unable to adjust freezer controler. temp. did show as freezer cooling.all coils are frost free and clean.
any suggestions?

I am experiencing the very same problem. My fridge is about 1.5 yrs old. Very frustrating. I have unplugged and replugged (my version of reboot) :) it

appeared that it was going to work as we could then use the control panel but that ended quickly and the temp never did get cooler.

This must be a Kenmoore conspiracy...my brothers Refrig is kaput as of yesterday, freezer works but not the refrig and when attempting to run the service test's the control board will not work/respond as well. What gives?

Is there any way I can get a positive responce from the control board without getting out my A.E.D and jump starting this darn thing??

kenmore elite trio 76523 top not working bottom is fine. Controls light up but will not respond to attempted changes. I turned the unit off for 1 hour but this did not help. I let it stay on during the night but this did not change anything. I can not get the control to work at all.

I just went through this with my refridgerator and actually posted one of the questions. Here is what I found ........

In the freezer compartment behind the panel there is an evaporator fan which pulls cold air from the freezer and pushes it up into the refrridgerator compartment. If the fan is not working it is one of three things.. 1) there is so much frost in the fan area the fan blade is stopped and cannot push the cold air into the refridgerator compartment or the air channel is blocked. 2) there is no electricity going to the fan (usually tied to the door switch of the refirdgerator compartment, and 3) the motor is dead and will have to be replaced.

Solution to #1 - defrost but there is another problem in the "frost-free" part of the system which must be addressed or the frost will return and it will happen again in the future.

Solution #2 - check to see there is power to the fan. (most are 110VAC but some are 100VDC. Use a meter and check)

Solution #3 - If there is power, the motor is dead. Replace the motor. Be aware that AC and DC motors are different and replace per manufacture's specifications.

Repair sercice coming out tues. will post results

  • Anonymous Feb 26, 2008

Sears came out and replaced the fan. Apparently it's a common problem. There was a little bit of frost on the back of the freezer, but everything else was still frozen. Guess just a matter of time before that defrosted. Anyway, $200. later it's fixed. Hope it helps!

My fridge did the same thing. I was told to:

Refridgerator not cooling, but freezer is freezing

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

Fridge not working properly on kenmore bottom freezer model 596.7

I have a similar problem, although I have no cooling in the fridge section. Had a repair man indicate that the electrical panal(pcb board) needs to be replaced. It is on order ($200). Sure hope that is the issue. To me, it appeared that the freezer fan(which cools the fridge) was not working. Whether that is the result of a faulty electrical panal is yet to be determined. Good luck!

Refrigerator not cooling

This could be that it is out of balance. Set the temperature settings to midway. This control can easily get the fridge temp out out of balance if over adjusted. If you already have the tmp control at midway then you need to make sure there are no obstructions to the duct that carries the cold air from the freezer to the fresh food section to cool it. Check for ice buildup or any kind of blockage. Let me know what you find.
