I have an old thermasol steam unit 84 salvaged from a bath reno. there is a check valve on one pipe and a union fitting on the other. unfamiliar territory, how do i hook it up and what potential problems to look for in a mid 80's unit that's been sitting for a while

Check valve is the cold water inlet---valve keeps water from siphoning back out causing unit to boil dry. Probably is quite a bit of lime inside from "hard" water

you have to try and find a good service person, steam units are easy to work on, and the units needs a good acid cleaning, to remove calcium buildup..and maybe new seals, which can be made...

yes thats correct or if you have manuel flush at the genrator there is a ball valve. open for minutes then close and run generator for thirty minutes without anyone in the shower.
