Sony walkman fx281 says hold when I push AM or FM button How do I turn on radio?

It seems the hold button has glided off the rails of its underside. You need professional help in repairing it. DON'T DO IT YOURSELF. YOU WILL DAMAGE YOUR DEVICE FURTHER.

Does it have buttons 1-6 on it????? If it does try going to station and try pushing and holding button one.....until it stops blinking.....

Make sure you don't have the HOLD button engaged. This button is what keeps your station buttons, power, etc., from accidently switching when you bump it.

This button is found on the top right hand side of the radio if you are looking down on the radio with the clock display facing you.

If the button is showing the red painted mark, you have the HOLD button engaged. Switch it off, and then press the Power button to turn on the radio.

From my experiences with this specific radio, the problem you're describing indicates the batteries are low and need to be replaced.

Tune to desired station. Hold Clock/enter button.
Press a preset button.

If it's a tape player with a stop button it should turn off by just pressing stop. If there is a radio then there then there should be an off position where you select if you want to listen to the radio or listen to the tape.

Your Sony is equiped for 5 AM presets and 15 FM presets.

1. Power your unit "ON".
2. Set the desired band - AM or FM.
3. Hold the "Mode" button down no more than one second. The "preset" indication just be gone.
4. Manually tune in the desired station you want to preset.
5. Hold "Enter" until preset indication re-appears. The number of the preset should be blinking.
6. Using the tuning buttons, change the the number to your desired "preset" number.
7. Push the "Enter" button to set the preset.

Remember, you can't have more than 5 AM presets (a mistake I made).

The auto off is set by pressing and holding one of the buttons on the side for about 10 seconds.
