Every time I try to batch scanning on my Pixma MP530 I get a vertical line running through the page. I've cleaned the platen glass, the inner side of the document cover, the transparent sheet (I even removed it and cleaned it), and the inner side of the ADF area. I can scan individual pages but batch scanning keeps producing this frustrating black line. Any advice? Thanks!

When using the ADF to scan multiple document the scanner assembly stay stationary and the paper is fed across it. Where the scanner parks for this there is something between the scanner and the document, likely on the glass. Often there is a small strip of glass on one end of the scanner bed. Clean here if there is one, otherwise look around and I'm sure you'll find it. Remember, never spray cleaning solutions directly onto the glass, always onto a cloth or towel first. The scanner has a calibration strip that can be damaged otherwise.

Black vertical line prints on the right side of every page.

Good Day Tkidwell!

Better check and clean the ADF platen glass and the flatbed scanner glass.

Use a lint clothe moistened with alcohol or water and gently wipe the dirt in the glasses of the ADF platen and flatbed scanner.

You can also try cleaning the roller by performing the deep cleaning.

I am scanning a photo. I have translucent lines running horizontal through the picture before i print it.

Documents scanned/copied from the document feeder pass over a thin glass area where scanning occurs. Clean this area if sent faxes, copies or scans have black or white vertical lines.
  1. Lift the document cover to expose the platen glass.

  2. Wipe the ADF scan area (C) with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth moistened with water.

  3. Then wipe with a clean, soft, dry, lint-free cloth making sure there are no residues left, especially on the platen glass.

  4. Close the document cover and make a copy of a text document to confirm the black line has disappeared.

I dont kno how to scan a picture

Power on the printer and open the top platen. You will see a glass surface, place your picture with the printed side down onto the glass and close the lid.

On a computer with a Windows based system, double click on "MP navigator." You can find this on your list of installed programs from the windows start menu, listed under "canon pixma."

When the page opens it will give on screen instructions, step by step as they are performed by you.

I have lines in printed material

If a print result of faxing, copying or scanning has uneven print density, or when copies and scans you make have vertical black lines, cleaning the platen glass may solve the problem.
  1. Turn off the power and disconnect the power cord.

  2. Prepare two clean, soft, and lint-free cloths.

    Note:
Do not use tissue paper or paper towels as they may damage the machine.

  3. Open the document cover.

  4. Wipe the platen glass (D), the inner side of the document cover (white area) (C), the glass of the ADF (A), and the inner side of the ADF (white area) (B) with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth moistened with water

    (A) ADF Glass
    (B) ADF White Reference Area
    (C) Document Cover White Reference Area
    (D) Platen Glass

Note: If you have trouble wiping dirt, use diluted mild detergent (for dish washing).
    Caution:
    * Never use volatile liquids such as thinners, benzene, or alcohol; these can damage the machine.
    * The d
ocument cover white reference is easily damaged, so wipe it gently.
  5. Carefully wipe away moisture from each part with another soft, dry lint-free cloth. Do not leave any residue, especially on the platen glass.

  6. Close the document cover.

  7. Reconnect the power cord and power the machine back on.

Scanning a document from the ADF results in a line down the middle of each page scanned. Scanning from the platen (not using the ADF) works fine

Lift the scanner cover so that you can see the platen glass. Look to the left of the large sheet of glass and you will see a narrow strip of glass. This is the area used to scan documents fed from the ADF. Make sure that this glass is very clean. Use a damp cloth to clean any dirt or buildup.

Black line on document when I scan from platen or ADF or scan to save as PDF.

As a tech I've never seen that happen. from the doc feeder only Yes, not both the feeder and the glass but not show up when you print from the computer ?????????

For sure there is a dot or something on the small strip of glass, only when you do it from the feeder.
the reason is that the document is moving and the dot on the "small" strip of glass now looks like a line to the copier.

You said it also does it when you lay it down on the glass !!??(platen) that should of indicated the drum has a ring around it, but since it doesn't come out on the PC copy then the glass must have a line on it.

White spots on scanned photos

There's probably nothing you can do for dust under the glass, but in the Advanced settings for your scanner, there is an option to turn on "Reduce Dust & Scratches", with three different 'strengths'. You may want to try this to see if it helps.

Print Problem - vertical lines

If the problem only occurs when using the document feeder, the problem is not usually caused by the drum. When using the document feeder, try to notice where the scanner (the light assembly under your scan glass)stops just before the paper is being fed. Some multifunction machines have a small piece of glass that is separate from the large scan glass and the scanner assembly stays parked underneith it as the original is being fed over it. Most likely there is something on the glass where the scanner parks as originals are being fed thru the feeder. When putting your original on the large scan glass to copy, the mark on the glass will only show as a spot, but will show as a vertical line thru the whole copy when using the feeder.

Verical line(s) problem with canon mp780

Hi Nick, It's ONLY when you copy? I start by cleaning the platen glass. Wipe the Platen Glass with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth moistened with water. Then wipe with a clean, soft, dry, lint-free cloth making sure not to leave any residue, especially on the Platen Glass. If you have trouble getting the scanning area clean, wipe with diluted mild detergent (for dish washing). Do the same thing for the white area under the platen lid. If this does not resolve the problem let me know. His Dudeness
