~When sending one page, does the display indicate usage of any memory ? If it does then it is merely a feeder problem. If you open up the front flap (the whole panel holding all the number keys and display it hinges forward) you will see to the rear of the machine two rubber rollers - the rubber 'goes off' after a bit - it either dries out/ perishes or gets dirty. You can try cleaning these with a slightly damp rag (avoid paper towels/ fluffy cloths). However, if they have gone past their use by date you may have to consider replacing your machine (unless a proficient engineer can replace them for less than the cost of a new machine). Whilst the front flap is open, below the lower of the two rubber rollers is a glazed screen which houses the scanner. Run you finger across the glazed area and see just how much dirt is being scanned across each of your pages being sent - you might be surprised!

In the meantime, this is not an unusual situation - but do you really have to send 80 pages of fax (5 - 20 I can understand)? The risk of missing one page (and it being a crucial one is too great). However, my L350 will not pickup following pages and is much happier sending single pages only. The only solution, I am afraid, is for you to stand over the fax and feed one page in after another, just as the previous one leaves the input tray. You can keep an eye on how many pages have actually scanned and if it matches up with how many you have fed through by keeping an eye on the page count on the machine's display.
Can't offer a better solution i am afraid. hope this helps tho.

When we start to send a fax the machine shows "memory" in the window and the fax will not go through. If we continue to try, after 3-4 times the fax will finally go through. Any idea what we can do to stop...

If this is a newer style machine...most units scan the pages into memory before they send it. What are you trying to send???? is it a complex color brochure..????
Try sending a simple page of type and see if the machine does the same thing. This may be a limitation of the memory capacity of your machine.

I need to know how to send a Broadcast fax to multiple numbers

This is right from the manual:
You can use the Multiple Send feature, which allows you to send a fax to
multiple locations. Originals are automatically stored in memory and sent
to a remote station. After transmission, the originals are automatically
erased from memory.
1 Press Fax.
2 Load originals face up into the ADF, or place a single original face
down on the scanner glass.
For details about loading an original, see page 5.1.
3 Adjust the document resolution and darkness to suit your fax needs.
See page 9.1.
4 Press Menu until Fax Feature appears on the bottom line of the
display and press OK.
5 Press the Scroll buttons until Multi Send appears and press OK.
6 Enter the number of the first receiving fax machine and press OK.
You can use speed buttons, speed dial numbers, or group dial
numbers. For details, see page 10.2.
7 Enter the second fax number and press OK.
The display asks you to enter another fax number to send the
document.
8 To enter more fax numbers, press OK when Yes appears and
repeat steps 6 and 7. You can add up to 209 destinations.
Note
You cannot use group dial numbers for another fax number.
9 When you have finished entering fax numbers, select No at the
Another No.? prompt and press OK or Start.
The original is scanned into memory before transmission. The
display shows memory capacity and the number of pages being
stored in memory.
10 If an original is placed on the scanner glass, select Yes to add
another pages. Load another original and press OK.
When you have finished, select No at the Another Page? prompt.
The machine begins sending the fax to the numbers you entered in
the order in which you entered them.

I want to scan then send instead of scanning whilst sending

There are 2 methods of sending 1. Through memory, in which the machine scans the document then sends when all pages have been scanned. 2. In real time, in which the document is placed in the ready mode and the line monitor or handset is used to dial the number. In this case the document is not scanned until a response is heard from the other machine.
However, in the case of the memory being full, either of documents in the queue or if there are documents waiting to be printed (because of no toner or no paper) then the machine will not allow sending from memory.

Document to memory before sending

Here's the manual. Look at page 6-8. That tells how to turn on real-time transmission. You just need to do the same thing, except switch it to off when you get to that step. http://www.brother.ca/en/products/pdf/manuals/MFC8220-UG.pdf
