Hi If you remove the brew unit and put everything back with out it the brew unit. Turn th machine on and see if it will cycle? Open the door and look in the back where the brew unit was. There is a cog in the back with teeth. There are 2 large teeth, and they should be at the 10 and 12:00 position roughly. If they are anywhere else you have a broken drive and need to get the gears replaced. If they are in the correct position check the front of the brew unit where the circles are. There are 2 diamonds and they should be pointing at each other. if they are not you need to bring them together with the key tool. Insert it into the center of the circles and turn until they line up, then put back into the machine, and see if it will work. If it still doesn't you have a bad board.
Testimonial: "I had done all these things and it turned out to be the board. Thanks"
I also have the problem "brewunit blocked".
I have taken out the brewunit and operate the micro-switch of the door and brewunit.
I see the the motor shaft turns a litte and makes the same blocked noise, as when teh brewunit is in...
Could this be the mainboard or it it the motor?
Thanks
I have the same problem. Quote "There are 2 large teeth, and they should be at the 10 and 12:00 position roughly. If they are anywhere else you have a broken drive and need to get the gears replaced. "
With the door open and operating both the door and brewunit switches. I used a match book for the brewunit switch and a screwdriver for the door micro switch.
I turned on the unit. Mind you the brewunit is removed, the microswitches are tripped, and the door is open. The cogs on the drive spindle move back and forth slightly. The two large cogs that should be at 10 and 12 are at 8 and 10.
I believe it is a drive problem and not the brewunit. There is a cover plate with a hole for the drive cog. It has two screws. I am tempted to remove it. First I will do some more research. I will search for a parts diagram as well.

Because no logical reason the error “BREWUNIT BLOCKED” appears also when the cup heating circuit is open... because heater or fuses are wrong..,
Gaggia should have informed about this anomaly in the net.
So, before you change your Brew Unit or you CPU..,, just check continuity between the two yellow wires... and bingo!
