The lamp on my SONY VPL-VW100 projector will not come on though the fan comes on. I hear 5 clicks in a row. The on/standby lamp indicator flashes green and the lamp cover light is yellow. After several minutes the projector shuts down. This problem was intermittent for several months. Now the lamp will not come on despite multiple tries including unplugging and re-plugging the projector. Is my problem related to the power control board? A repair shop say it is due to my lamp having burned out. I question this in light of the problem occurring intermittently at first. What do you think?

The lamp ballast board is giving you fits. The lamp socket wires attach to the board so it should be easy to locate.

Hi there

You should first check if there is any visible damage on your lamp. If not then it could be a faulty Ballast ( lamp powersupply )

SOURCE: power up

Hi mick1907

Take out your lamp and check for any irregularity like marks or discolouration.

If there is no visible damage - put back the lamp and take of the top cover - start the Projector and check if all your fans are running - that is if the machine starts at all.

If the unit doesn't start up at all you will have to replace the Mainboard.

Ok we're back to the flashing lamp cover LED. The green flashes you are seeing is the TV trying to start up. After it tries for awhile, it will eventually shut down and display an error code, in this case, the lamp cover LED flashing which means either the lamp cover, filter cover or main cabinet sensing switches are not closed, are intermittent or have some kind of wiring issue. A solid lamp cover light (no flashing) would point to the lamp and lamp drive, but the flashing light points to the switches. Give me an email address and I'll send you the training and troubleshooting manual so you can see for yourself. Any ther help needed, please don't hesitate to ask.

The clean your filter warning sign comes up and then shuts the projector down in 1 min. I have changed the lamp and filter. How do i reset the timer for the Lamp Hours and get rid of the warning?

Once the filter is replaced, plug the projector back in and make sure the projector is in standby mode.  Point the remote control at the projector and press the following buttons in order in less than 3 seconds: reset, ←, →, enter.  This worked for me.  Good luck.

Sony VPL-VW100

OK It SOUNDS like you have problems on one of the two power boards (designated GA and GB). There are a couple of things I need you to do the next time it acts up.
1) if any lights flash, count the number of flashes. It should be a repeating cylce of so many flashes.
2) If it won't come on, unplug it for 3 or 4 minutes (to let the power supplies discharge) and then plug it back it but don't try to power it on. Count the number of clicks you hear right after you plug it in. This is very important and it tells me if one section of the supply is not coming on.
I hope this helps. Feel free to rate this solution and to award the premium solution to whomever you please.
