I have the same problem with a new 5720. I know I put the WEP in correctly. Could there be some interference/communication conflicts between eNet Management and Windows Connection Manager?

  • Anonymous Feb 25, 2008

Just for clarification...I can connect to my FIOS wireless network but when I first turn on the Acer 5720 the Acer eNet Manager continues to connect and disconnect every minute or so. The connection seems to keep doing this for a period of time and then keeps a more consistent connection. I have not been happy with MS Vista in general but specifically, the connection manager as it has given me issues on my other (Sony VGN-FZ140E) laptop. I was wondering if there could be a conflict with the two wireless managers attempting to work at the same time and maybe against each other? Thanks for any help anyone has to offer. Kinda stinks buying a new laptop and not being able to connect to the Internet!

I have an ACER Extensa 5420-5687 and am having the same problem with my connection. It connects and disconnects me to the internet every few seconds, minutes, whatever. I have been told to disable ACER ENET Management but I cannot locate it (not uninstall, which I can locate). I was told to Start, Run "msconfig" and it should be under Startup but there is nothing named ACER Enet Management". Does anyone know where I can find this to disable it? Thanks!

My mother had the same problem on her Acer laptop, however it was a 4720z. The driver suggestion was for the 5000 series. Instead I used the "update driver" button on the "Network Adapter" page (get there by clicking on "configure" on "Wireless Network Connection Properties". The driver was updated and the problem went away. However, first I changed the "Power Management" to NOT allow the PC to turn off the WLAN to save power. Now that I am home, I looked at my PC and see that my IBM/Lenovo PC is set to allow the PC to turn off the WLAN to save power. So, I don't know which one solved the problem, however I am betting on the driver update. I'll probably call Mom to change back the power setting.

I have an Acer 5420 which had a persistent disconnection problem after startup, with either the wireless or LAN connection. It appears that the Microsoft network application would startup and make the connection, but seconds later the Acer Enet Management application would start, and its first act would be to disconnect from the Internet. Since the Microsoft network application provides every feature that I want, I choose to disable the Acer Enet Management.

  1. Following up on a hint from on of the posts, I went to Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt.
  2. At the command prompt window, I typed msconfig
  3. About a minute later (after Vista confirmed that it was OK to run this program, the System Configuration window comes up, where I selected the "services" tab
  4. Scrolling down the numerous services, I found "eNet service" and clicked the check mark to disable the service. Hit apply and OK, and restarted my laptop.
  5. The problem went away after that.

Hi, too many weeks with Microsoft/HP/Verizon trying to fix this exact problem to not find someone else with the same issue. Thank google for helping me find you. TCP/IP v6 is a new protocol not supported by the FIOS Actiontec router. When I started my PC, it will find my wireless connection okay, but any interruption - phone, standby, sleep, whatever - and I could not reconnect without powering the router down and restarting. HP and Verizon tech support were useless. Found the answer to the problem through a tier-three network guru at Microsoft (yes, tier one and two at MS were useless as well). Seems to me that support/compatability should be an easy answer to give, but I digress. Go to control panel, network and sharing, and find the link to manage network connections. Right click on your wireless connection, click properties and disable TCP/IP v6.

Possible wireless fix for you: i have acer aspire 5100 laptop for two years. i have never had a good connection wirelessly. I did not realize it was my system until i hooked up my netgear router three days ago. i tried everything-- HOURS! the one thing that finally worked was to go into device manager and choose atheros under the network adapters. i unchecked the power saver option and now i have a firm excellent connection that has not disconnected once! --for good measure i updated the drivers and got the latest updates for vista but the fix for me was disabling the power saver option on atheros.

Thanks for getting back with the TCP / IP v6 solution. I was setting this laptop up for a friend and no longer have access to the laptop I was working on. I actually found another solution that worked for me. It had to do with the Atheros WLAN card driver installed with the computer. I completely uninstalled the pre-loaded Atheros driver and reinstalled driver 7.3.1.109 for Windows Vista 32, which you can find here..... http://www.atheros.cz/download.php?atheros=AR5007EG&system=3

It is the Czech Atheros site and a little shady looking but the download was successful and as soon as I installed this driver I had no problems with dropping/losing/regaining the Internet connection.

Disabling the TCP / IP v6 settings sounds easier, but if it doesn't work for anyone, this may be this is an alternative.

Sorry for the late post but I could not find this post by searching fixya and had to wait for an email notifying me of an update.

This is a great site. My Acer laptop had the same problem. Minor difference from some of the above solutions. I tried disabling TCP/IP v6 and it didn't work. I deleted the network record info. Still didn't work. I then disabled Acer eNet Management and it still didn't work. I then went to http://www.atheros.cz. Found my chipset driver and then downloaded it and installed it. After installing it worked. I then reenabled Acer eNet Management and it still worked. So at least for this laptop Acer eNet Management wasn't a problem, although I would guess that turning off TCP/IP v6 is still required. My computer is the Acer 5520-5156. Acer support didn't know how to fix it. I sent it back to them at the request of tech support and then replaced the wireless network card. It still didn't work. But the driver update and turning v6 of TCP/IP did it.

Just wanted to thank albal for his solution... It worked for me, just got Verizon Fios and my Acer Aspire 5050 was doing exactly the same thing... I disabled the TCP v6, and now all is well. Now on to other problems with the Verizon remote, and its lack of control of the DVR!

It sound like the authentication has failed. make sure you have correct key.

you may need to get the laptop to 'forget' the settings it has for your network if they are incorrect. Go to your network utility and find the list of networks previously connected to. delete the record for yours.

now connect again, it will ask for the network key again because it is seeing it as new. make sure you put it in right this time.

After restoring a friend's Acer 5720 could'nt get the internet to work. Came across this forum and tried some of the suggestions but unfortunately didn't work, then came across the below which did :-)
In IE, click on "Tools" in the top menu bar of the browser. Then select "Internet Options" and click on the "Advanced" tab in the Internet Options window. Scroll down through the options and verify that the "TLS 1.0" checkbox is checked. Alternatively, you can check a later version of TLS such as 1.1 or 1.2. If no box is checked, check a TLS box and then click on the "Apply" button on the bottom of the window. This option ensures that all of your data transfers through the browser comply with the TLS protocol.

Hope it helps someone out.

I disabled the wireless in the actiontek router and used a netgear wireless router, also disabled the TCPv6 and now all is fine unless the FIOS goes down which happens when we have bad weather which is strange since the cables are underground

Sounds like a bad router or antenna. Try replacing the antenna or checking the connection of the antenna on the router. Have your ISP replace the router and the problem should go away.

can you pull up your router, I had this with an acer last week, I had set it up on my router then taken it to the clients house and it wouldn't work, the thing was that it never droped my router and was in the my network places several times. as soon as I realized that I deleted all of the routers and anything that wasn't supposed to be there and just went to make a new connection and bingo i worked. also don't forget the encryption key if you put one in you will need it to get on you network, good luck

My computer doesnt want it connect to internet,, appear the connection icon but when the page try to open , it cant do

Please follow the steps provided below:

Q: Basic Wireless Troubleshooting
A:
Wireless Troubleshooting
The following steps will help determine if the wireless card in the system is functioning properly.
IMPORTANT:
Please go through all the troubleshooting steps. If the wireless card is functioning properly, please check the network configuration. Acer America can not assist with configuring the network.
Before you start:
  • Make sure there is a wireless router or wireless access point.
  • The wireless router/access point is plugged in.
  • Refer to the owners manual to ensure the wireless adapter is on (you can turn the wireless card on and off by pressing a clear button)
  • Contact the internet service provider to make sure ther account is active and the network is connected in a way that supports their configuration.
If the computer was working properly at an earlier time:
If the laptop was working fine, do a System Restore which rolls the system back to the last known working configuration. System Restore is located in System Tools under Accessories. Here is a link to explain the use of this feature:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;306084
To find the wireless network:
1. Click on Start winxpstart%20button.jpg then click on "Control Panel."
xpmenu.jpg 2. In the Control Panel window, click on "Network and Internet Connections."

xpcontrolpanel.jpg
3. In the "Network and Internet Connections" window, click on "Network Connections."

networkconnect.jpg 4. Once in Network Connections, right-click on the wireless connection then select "View available wireless networks"
5. If the wireless network is a secured network, please refer to the manual of the wireless router to make it unsecured for the purpose of testing the wireless network.
NOTE: Acer does not recommend leaving a wireless network unsecured and is not responsible for data accessed due to unsecured wireless networks.
6. If the wireless network is listed, the wireless adapter is functioning properly. If unable to connect to the wireless router, go through "Before you start" at the beginning of this article.

Have a new Acer Aspire 5517, when I move the computer more than 7-10' from the router the signal goes from Execellent to poor/lost connection. 5 other computers on this Verizon Fios network run great with...

Take both excuses out of the equation. Buy a wireless N dongle off ebay (you can pick them up dirt cheap).

Router would pick up dongle using it's own software (Acer's excuse) and would not know or care the make of notebook (verizon's excuse)

try the following : ( for testing)

disable the security and see if u can stay online longer
if u can , the passpharse or keypairs are wrong ( or in some cases the router or WNIC does not support key rotations (cisco)
or the key might be messed up..

Disable mac filtering .. ( for testing)

upgrade the router firmware ( be sure to backup the old firmware first and document your settings because upgrading firmware will set the router device back to the factory default)

How did you install the new driver to get wireless with FIOS?

The wireless issue could be a variety of things embedded within the windows operating system.. You can try to right click on the setup file and attempt to select "install" if that function is not available you may be forced to reload your os for the computer to replace the damaged or corrupted files which handle the wifi interface to the 8255 controller.

The battle: Acer Vs. Verizon FiOS

Verizon needs to apply a firmware update for the Atheros wireless adapter in your notebook. I work for Acer and I end up having to tell people this all day long. If you take this to a wireless router that is not from verizon you will have no problems with your connection. Maybe if enough Fios customers complain they will provide a firmware update for this.
