You need to push the POWER/MODE button once it is connected and the red charging light is on. It will then say "usb" and will show up on the desktop for you.

I just got a Hero 3, I plugged it in my PC and when I plugged it in my MAC it didnt recognize it, it only charged. So I put my microSD in a SD adapter and "erased" it on mac to MS-DOS FAT format. Then it worked but now i wont put it in my PC again.

Use a card reader instead of the camera.

The gopro wont charge either by new mac lap top or by adaptor with wall outlet

The only common thing is the cable you use to charge, the connectors on the cable and the connector on the GoPro. So check these if there is no mechanical damage or a blockage by dirt or debris.

Gopro charging problems flashing

GoPro battery dead. Won't charge in the camera. No charge light comes on when you connect the camera to a USB. There's the scenario. Good tip on the GoPro battery shocking technique posted by Rabscuttle above. I discovered that my vehicle USB cigarette lighter adapter drains the GoPro battery when it's turned off. With the GoPro battery completely dead, the camera will not charge it. If the GoPro battery voltage falls below a certain point, the camera's circuitry is set to turn off the internal charger as if there's no battery in the camera at all. The recommended solution is to buy an external charger, which is able to charge a completely dead battery. The battery shocking method saves that expense.

Connecting a 9 volt battery to the GoPro battery for 30 seconds can give the battery enough charge to allow the camera to recognize the battery. A 9 volt battery from a smoke detector, a pair of jumper leads, and two straight pins is what I used to get my GoPro battery charged enough to allow the camera to recognize the battery and begin charging.

What program can I use to upload from my gopro to my computer that is easy to use. It has to be from card. Thank you.

You don't need a program.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or, despite what I said first, you can use any phtoto cataloging program, such as Picasa.

Usb not recognized on when I connect my flip ultra to any computer (mac or pc)... it has worked in the past on my mac and now is recognized by any computer... driving me crazy...

the camera has to powered and on ...and be sure you plug in the right kinda usb ...it needs to be a 2.0
so ..install a 2.0 driver to be sure you have one ..and after that with the camera powered ..plu one by one in each usb port..until it is seen in one...also look at the camera cause some devices need to confirm from them the connection via usb ...
it has to be seen ..if it's not ..change the cable it may be damaged..
