My Samsung 50'' DLP msg "Check Fan No. 3"

My Samsung 50'' DLP hlr5067wx/xaa has a message popping up every 3 minutes saying "Check Fan No. 3"... It will stay turned on indefinetly, and I can watch TV without issue aside from the error message popping up every few minutes. Samsung has told me (of course) that I can't fix this problem on my own, and I need to use a repairman. But I hate to spend any money until I know I have exhausted all options. My question is:

1. Where is Fan No. 3 in this model or are they labeled if I remove the back? (fat chance on them being labeled, I'm sure)

1. Is it possible that this problem could be fixed by using compressed air to clean the fan?

1. Can I replace this fan myself and if so where would I get the part?

I am decently saavy with hardware, I have been building computers for 10 years, but this would be my first attempt to fix a TV. Any assistance/answers are appreciated!

You can attempt to remove the back cover, but there is a very delicate mirror in the back. I'd just move it away from the wall, used compressed air to clean out the fans, and put everything back together. Just make sure you don't damage the color wheel or light engine.

Flickering screen, loud buzzing sound, self boot down.

Color wheel bad. Makes rumbling sound. Bad bearings. Has to spin about 10,000 RPMs and sync to DLP chip. Here: https://www.encompassparts.com/webwiz/wwiz.asp?wwizmstr=WEB.SEE&partnumber=5933777&smodel=HLR5067WX/XAA

My samsung tv hlr5067wx/xaa screen turns black, sounds is fine. if i turn it off for awhile i can get picture for a few minutes, but it goes back to black screen

I suspect the lamp is failing on your TV. The lamp replacement code is listed on the side of the TV on a sticker that is orange and white. It will start with BP96-. The lamp code is crucial on these older Samsung DLP's because they used quite a few different styles. Please take a few moments to rate my answer. Thank you...

My Samsung 50" DLP HDTV keeps humming when the DLP lamp comes on.

Hi, you have one of two problems, either the color wheel is going or one of the cooling fans are going, the color wheels are a very common problem in samsung dlp`s, sorry I can`t nail it to a specific part but I`d bet it`s the color wheel as they are notorious for failing in samsungs, video-tek

Black line

I just had this problem with my Samsung 50' DLP HLR5067WX/XAA. Fortunatly it was still under warranty with Best Buy, so they fixed it for me. They had to order a brand new light engine. (or where the mirrors are, if i'm not using the right terminalogy) He said the problem is with one of the mirrors that has slipped (or slipping because overtime the black line will get thicker and thicker). I hope i'm saying it right, but it was with a tiny mirror that was slipping. Hope it's under warranty. I've also had 1x component plug burn out on me, my HDMI port went to ****, and he's gotta come back out because when he made the repair, the picture was reflecting too high up and to the left. (MLB 2k7 for xbox 360 - scores on top of screen are about 1/4th cut off). He said is next trip back to my house would result in me getting a new TV, so can't wait for his arrival! good luck with your tv
