Take the noozle off of the vac. take out the brush roll and old belt, put the belt over the brush roll and re-instal in the noozle. Turn the big square knob on the front os far as you can, it will lock in that position, then put it back on the vac and lock it down, then turn the knob the other way to release the belt unto the belt pulley.

Kirby ultimate g

Vibrating – that usually happens on some short fiber or very dense carpets. When nozzle goes against the carpet fiber Kirby starts jumping. Try vacuuming the same place while facing opposite way.

Belt – red arrows means DISENGAGE. When you install the nozzle on the Kirby unit while green arrows match you will not be able to turn it on red. You must follow sequence (starting from nozzle off the Kirby, green arrows match, Kirby front lifter all the way up by pressing one of the pedals):
1. Turn Kirby knob to match red arrows. You will feel some tension and hook inside of the nozzle is supposed to catch the belt and stretch forming a loop for the Kirby shaft.
2. Put the nozzle on the Kirby and lock it on with the latch.
3. Twist the knob back to match the green arrows. YOU ARE DONE

Go to GoodVac.com Kirby vacuum online manual. There are some small details that you may want to pay attention to if you have removed the brush roll to install a new belt. Also there are some pictures that will help you understanding the process.

Can’t get the belt to pick up on the hook when trying to get the head attachment working
Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. The belt hook sometimes can be extremely hard to rotate on the Kirby vacuum but to remove the belt you turn it counter clockwise and to install the belt you turn it clockwise.

The belt install on a Kirby is to raise the height adjustment to the highest level and then dial the belt off counter clockwise so it is loose and not on the fan pulley, release the top lever on the bell housing, then remove the bottom plate and unhook the brushroll on one side, slide the old belt off and then slide the new one on, replace the brushroll with the screws facing the carpet and re-hook the bottom plate on the Kirby. Then take the bell housing and hook that back on to the Kirby and lock it down. Then dial the belt on clockwise all the way and the belt should be on the fan pulley. The belt should be ready to go, plug in your Kirby and then do the step down on the vacuum height adjustment until the tone changes, then try to see id it picks up, if not go one more height adjustment and that should be the correct setting.

Kirby Vaccum

Rotate the square knob on the front of the attachment to the "Belt On" position (green marker). Insert your fingers in the attachment port (the round opening on the back where the "hook" is) and position the belt so it's centered and as high up as it will go (that's usually just below the center of the opening. THEN rotate the square knob on the front to the "Belt Off" position. You should feel the belt tighten up and the know harder to rotate.
