Question about Saeco Royal Professional Espresso Machine
I've only had to empty the grounds drawer four times since I've gotten this machine - each time I have more trouble getting the message to clear so it will operate again. In addition to emptying the drawer & cleaning under it, I have to remove the brew group, clean inside, & then jiggle things for five minutes or so until the message eventually clears. I don't know where the sensor is so that I can look at it. I'm about to return it. Has anyone else had this problem?
When you need to empty the grounds draw remove the drip tray and pull out the dregs draw - don't open the side panel or turn off the machine, - It works for me!!

Remove the drip tray and the dreg drawer for a FULL 10 SECONDS. It is timed to ensure the tray is really being emptied. Good or bad thats how it is. Do not switch off the machine.
Replace dreg drawer and drip tray. Good to go.

Small amount of crc and jiggle the microswitch with a pointed knife until the message changes to dregdrawer missing. The main issue is the microswitch gets a bit sticky with age and numbers of coffees, mine has 6700.

The 10 second rule was the answer for me. My machine was only 2 months old (3 years ago) when I had this same problem. Pulled the drawer out and pushed it back in 10 or 15 times. No success. Checked the side door. Nothing. Checked everything. Nothing. Pulled the drawer and cleaned it *completley*. Problem solved - until next "DREGDRAWER FULL" message. Same problem. Same routine. After 3 or 4 of these 'routines', I was ready to use it as a boat anchor, but then realized (after some more experimenting) it wasn't cleaning the dregdrawer that fixed the problem, it was keeping it out of the machine for 15 seconds or so.

I also dread the message but have found using a handbrush all the way inside where the drawer is clears the sensor and might also sweep up escaped grounds, at which point it works again fine.
Otherwise, I love the machine!

Solution: Leave machine switched on, take drip tray and drawer out, wait a minimum of 15 seconds then re insert drawer. The machine has an inbuilt counter that notifies drawer full after 30 cups and will reset after 15 seconds.

Royal Professional is one of the best designed Saeco fully automatic machines. The owners need to save the User's manual and refer the solution to simple malfunction.
The message "Empty dredge drawer" appears when about 20 or 25 dredges accumulate. To clear that message, the dredge drawer should be taken out when the machine is on. Clean/dump the used coffee pucks and replace the drawer back allowing at least 10 seconds time lapse before replacing. This pause of 10 seconds allows reset the electronic count . This process of removal, pause of 10 seconds works even if the dredges are not dumped. The Machine can be cheated by simply removing the dredge drawer for 10 seconds when the machine is powered on, and replace the the drawer without cleaning the dredges.
Removing dredge drawer when the machine is off, does not correct or remove the error message.

Mine did this, and I took the overspill and the dredge drawer out and then bent down and looked at where the sensor is and blew in it really hard. and as soon as I did it said dredge drawer missing. I just had to blow into the sensor, some grounds must have gotten trapped in there. Seriously save a bunch of time and try it. spent 20 mins trying tot fix it, shake it, unplug it, take it apart... and all I had to do was blow it. go figure.

I too got it to clear after a while but not by fixing anything. Anyone know how the sensor works. The micro switch on the left of the drawer merely seems to sense that the drawer has been placed back in. How does it know when its full?

We had the same problem. THe sensor is on the machine and (from memory) to the left of the drawer as you are looking at the machine from the front. We slid a credit card down the side and it worked after that.
