My microwave is a Kenmore 721.62629200 The first time my microwave went bad after 7 years I found that the connections on the magnatron had burned thru the housing and was shorting out on itself. I bought another magnatron and only after a couple weeks one of the magnets cracked. I bought a second magnatron and this one lasted about 2 months and the bottom magnet cracked again. This time I replaced the magnatron, transformer and capacitor. I've only had it installed one day and it already has started that familiar loud buzzing again. I'm afraid to cook anything over two or three minutes for fear of the magnet heating up and cracking again. For whatever reason the magnatrons are getting very hot or the magnets are getting hot and cracking. Anybody have any idea why these keep magnets are cracking? Thanks

The magnetron is more than likely the problem, or the inverter board if oven is 7 years old or less. If you have a digital meter you can do a rough test on the magnetron, unplug microwave, set meter to ohms, disconnect one wire from magnetron and put the test leads across too points, if reading is .2ohms or less it is good, but if the test shows infinity or open the magnetron is bad, keep in mind it may have a short making the reading misleading.
That error appeared after substitution of lamp... result of bad adjustment of the magnetic lock. I disassembled again and adjusted the 2 screws that fixes the magnetic locker to the microwave (on the right side next to the lamp) until the locker keeps the door completely closed...
The most likely cause is a bad magnetron, "heats food" the other two possibilities are the high voltage capacitor and diode. The cost to repair will a approach a new microwave oven.
My Kenmore 721.63259301 would not heat items up so I came here and saw
the parts required and was just about to order them when I checked the
online owners manual and found this. FULL FIVE-YEAR WARRANTY ON
THE MAGNETRON For five years from the date of purchase, if the
magnetron in this Kenmore microwave oven
fails due to a defect in material or workmanship,
Sears will repair it free of charge.
My microwave has a manufacture date of July 2009 so I will be taking it
right to the closest Sears repair center for a free repair. I suggest
everyone do the same.
If the microwave is arcing, or if a cooling or ventilating part is at risk, that can be dangerous.
But of course any time anything is broken or otherwise not functioning properly, it should be fixed as quickly as possibly to prevent it from getting worse.
Their warranty will normally cover in-home service on parts & labor for the first year, and just the magnetron itself for 7-10 years after that.
Specific warranty terms are in your owner's manual.
For repair service on Kenmore appliances, see Sears Service.

I went on-line and found a site that gave answers to similar problems. I found that no power to the the control board usually meant a transformer issue. I checked the leads on the transformer (with a meeter) and found that it was shot. Now I need a replacement transformer, at a reasonable price, or else I will purchase a new Microwave.
