> keyboard working properly

This only means that the keyboard has been "detected" as "connected" and as being a keyboard device.

It's time to take the notebook to a qualified technician, to purchase and install a replacement keyboard.

Keys not responding on my hp laptop

Hello, welcome to Fixya!

Is it all keys that are not working or some keys?

Go to control panel, click on the keyboard icon. Click hardware. Check device status and make sure it says "This device is working properly".

Restart the computer and try again. If problem persists, then it means you might end up replacing the keyboard.

But before then, you can get an external keyboard (USB). You can be using this pending the time you replace the keyboard.

Or you can use on-screen keyboard. Click start > Accessories > Easy access > On-screen keyboard. Or click start, under search, type in"on screen keyboard", then press enter. This will take you straight to on-screen keyboard.

I hope the above information is clear.

Regards.

How do i access my quotation marks. When i hit the key an accent, an e with a mark shows up instead.è

You may have unintentionally set the keyboard for a different language, check it :
  1. In the control panel (start --> control panel), open the Region and language tab. In Vista it will be Clock, Language and Region.

  2. 2

On the language tab, click on details. In vista, click on change keyboards or other input methods.

  3. 3

Click on the language that you would like and save it as an added keyboard. In vista, click change keyboards and then you can add a keyboard and save it.

Shift keys may be bad:
Your shift key may have a problem. Have you tried both shift keys?
or
YOU CAN USE THE ON-SCREEN KEYBOARD. IT WILL BE A PAIN TO TURN IT ON ONLY TO USE THE SHIFT KEYS, BUT ITS AN ALTERNATIVE. OTHERWISE, A NEW KEYBOARD WILL DO.

TO GET TO THE ON-SCREEN KEYBOARD:

CLICK START>ALL PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>ACCESSIBILITY> ON-SCREEN KEYBOARD.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response.

The shift key, backspace, delete buttons are not working

here are some tips to solve keyboard problems:

How to fix Keyboard problems:

1. Due to wear and tear, the keys for certain characters on a keyboard will wear out. This happens for more commonly used characters. If the problem is due to loose or improper contact, you can try to fix the key back. If this does not work, you can replace the key with a new key purchased from a computer store. Love your keyboard by handling it gentle.

2. Sometimes the keyboard drivers can get corrupted. You need to change them or test the driver.

Go to My Computer :::>Hardware:::>Device Manager and uninstall the keyboard. For windowsXP Start:::>Control panel:::>Keyboard:::>Hardware:::> uninstall keyboard. Restart the computer, the keyboard should get reinstalled automatically. The keyboard should start working again. If not so get keyboard drivers by updating windows or manufacturer web site.

Always use computer or antivirus protection - run a free computer antivirus scan or any other anti-virus since virus can corrupt system files. get one now!

3. Try to swap the keyboard with another keyboard which works properly on another computer. If the alternate keyboard has the same problem, there may be a problem with the keyboard circuit on motherboard.

If the alternate keyboard works properly, check if the keyboard cable is properly connected, whether wires in the keyboard cable are connected properly.

4. Open out the keyboard and check if the keyboard fuse is working. If the fuse has blown, replace it with another fuse of the same rating and size.

5. If you spill water or any liquid on the keyboard, switch off the computer immediately. Unplug the keyboard, turn the keyboard upside down and keep it out for drying either in the sun or under a fan. If some other sticky fluid has been spilled on the keyboard, use a moist cotton swab or ear bud to clean computer or wipe away the fluid. Only when it is completely dry, (it will take a minimum of 24 hours depending on the weather), connect the keyboard back to your computer.

6. For USB keyboard change the USB ports or unplug the keyboard from the USB port then plug it back until it responds or detected. Usually the keyboard led(indicator) lighting up should show a successful connection.

7. Set the speed of character repeatation. For windowsXP Start:::>Control panel:::>Keyboard:::>Speed:::>make adjustments.

8. Set the blinking rate of cursor. For windowsXP Start:::>Control panel:::>Keyboard:::>Speed:::>make adjustments.

9. Go for a typing course or tutorial on how to use keboard features.

10. For discolouration or fading of white keyboard. Use good computer cleaners, soft cloth, whiteners or vinegar mixed with water to keep the original white colour or clean. don't use bleach or rough material to clean. disconnect the power supply. switching to good black keyboard can comfort you.

Hello, your numlock keys are ON, find your Num Lock button and press it off.
It can be a 2 button combination like FN(function button) + Num Lock button. Then it should work.
other way is to press numlock on your external keyboard and then disconnect the board. see if it works.

Compaq v2000 function key not working?

To check system board, connect external keyboard and see if all keys function normally. If the external works OK, check connections on laptop keyboard, making sure contacts are clean and fully seated in the ZIF socket If the external fails to function properly it is the system board.
