What could be the real cause of MBR coruption on my hard disk SONY VAIO VGN-SZ79MN? What is the cause for no OS System found upon boot up of a brand new unit?

  • Anonymous Feb 03, 2010

Pressing F8/ F10 was done by a customer care service man but to no avail. It says Can the installation repair be done using another OS Disk since there was no back-up disk yet of the Windows Vista OS which is built in with the unit? or can it be repaired using the XP OS Disk to recover the missing WIN32.dll file?

When putting a new system online before configuring any antivirus or other security software opens up the system to immediate infection. It is possible that if you spent any amount of time online before properly configuring your Antivirus and/or firewall that your system was infected with a virus that manipulates your system to thinking the Windows installation has been corrupted. Running a installation repair on your windows installation will resolve the issue. Simply press f8 on startup and select use last known settings that worked, or you may need to use your disks to restore the system.

No you have to use the same OS version as is installed, but it does not have to be the Sony version. Did your system come with the Windows 7 upgrade DVD? I know newer systems that have Vista on it came with the upgrade DVD for free. I would recommend upgrading to 7 anyway since Vista is fraught with error.

When i am swiching on the laptop it shows os not found

Dear Friend,
As there is no primary drive in this vaio, it boots form Hard drive. If OS on hard drive is corrupt OR HDD is bad then you will get such massage. Go to set up. Enable external booting option. Try booting the system from USB pen drive ( You have to make a bootable pen drive ). If it boots then you have to replace HDD.

Sony vaio vgn series laptop - when xp os loading blue screen appears and display the msg hard disk drive not detected.

system not found in my experience generally leads to a damaged or loose hard drive, try to open the cover at the bottom side of the machine, and reseat the hard drive, if it still says system not found, get a 2.5 inch drive case, put your laptop drive in the case and connect it to another machine, if you can access the drive great! save all your files and once complete return the drive to your machine and try to reinstall the OS from a dvd then reinstall your files.. and if still having the same problem replace hard drive thanks.

I have a operating system not found

This issue may occur if one or more of the following conditions are true:
  • The basic input/output system (BIOS) does not detect the hard disk.
  • The hard disk is damaged.
  • Sector 0 of the physical hard disk drive has an incorrect or malformed master boot record (MBR).

Note Some third-party programs or disk corruption can damage an MBR.
  • An incompatible partition is marked as Active.
  • A partition that contains the MBR is no longer active.
Contact your hardware manufacturerYour best bet may be to contact the manufacturer of your computer or your hard disk. The manufacturer may have a utility that you can use to perform a more detailed scan for damaged areas of the disk and help verify the correct BIOS settings. However, be aware that the damage to your hard disk may be serious. Sometimes this means that your only solution is to replace your hard disk.
