The format should be FAT32 or NTFS, try performing the full format (not the quick format) and then check.

From where did you buy 64 GB of pend drive? Was it a legitimate store as there are many duplicate Kingston pend drives in the market which are actually 1 or 2 GB but have their firmware upgraded to show 32 or 64 GB.

SOURCE: Kingston Data Traveler 2.0 64

Theoretically, you can't format a more than 32 GB drive with FAT/FAT32 file system. In your case you have to choose the NTFS file system to format your 64 GB USB flash drive. However, if you really need to format it with FAT32, you got to use the command line or a third party tool. Hope this is going to help you.

The file system is unknown

The file system is likely corrupted. This can happen if you remove the usb drive from the computer without clicking "Safely remove hardware' first, (in your taskbar).

There is little chance that you can recover the data.

Just in case, try inserting the drive into different usb ports, preferably also on different computers. If the result is always the same, you will have to format your drive.

Insert the drive into a usb port. Assuming you use windows, click Start, click My Computer, find your USB drive in the list and RIGHT click on it. You will see a Format option. Click on that and use default or FAT. A quick format should do.

Good luck.

How to format a pen drive?

I know about this problem and the solution.

First, you should know your pen drive is infected with a virus. You can't usually repair it, you'lll just have to format it, and I'm getting to that.

Now, Before you format the pen drive, you might want to preserve some files in the drive?

Instead of trying to view the pen drive by double clicking or right click=>open TYPE the ASSOCIATED DRIVE LETTER at the RUN DIALOG BOX (start=>run)

Eg:
If your pen drive is assigned to drive E:
Start=>Run
Type "E:" (without quotes) and hit enter.
It should open.

Now you will probably see some weired .exe file, probably named fun.exe. That's the virus. You just cant delete it. BUT you can copy the rest of the imprtant files to your hard drive.

TO FORMAT
Start=>Run
type "cmd" (without qoutes) and hit enter
type "format/x E:" (without qoutes and mind your spellings and spacing. REPLACE "E:" with the associated drive letter of the pen drive)
Hit enter.

Hope my info fixes your problem,
Thanx for using fixya.
