My lg tv will not go into hd mode, i have a hdmi

The Hisense HX32N2176H will display an HD signal of 1366x720 with the HDMI input. (Any resolution above 480 (lines of pixels) is considered HD.) However, this isn't a full-HD (1080) capable TV. Most LCD tv's built in the last 4 years are HD compatible. Most cheaper brands tv's are 720 HD and some are full HD 1080 a little more money. Since their is no more analog broadcast as June 2009 all tv's manufactured around 2006 started incorperating the digital tuner (DTV) along with the analog so that the tv would still receive analog broadcast while the digital transistion was ongoing. All tv's with a Cathode Ray Tube (glass picture tube) are not HD compatible. First you will have 1 or 2 ports on the tv ethier on the side panel or rear panel of the set. They a marked HDMI 1 HDMI 2 or HDMI A HDMI B. If you have these ports your set is Hd Compatible. You may also need to upgrade your cable or satelllite equipment and subscribe to a HD package to be able to get HD service. You will need a HDMI cable to connect your cable or satellite receiver to the HDMI port on you tv. Call your local cable or satellite provider for options to upgrade to HD. Most over the air broadcast stations depending on your area transmit some stations in HD free of charge. A good quality outdoor antenna works best to give you stable signal. You may need to change the settings of the tv as some sets default to the 480i this is the standard digital signal.

You could try pressing the source button on the remote to see if that brings it up.

Also the TV may have got itself in a muddle. There will be a way to reset it to factory setting. If you can get into the TV's setup menu there ought to be an option buried somewhere to do that.

is the tv 720 or 1080. it wont work if your inputing 1080p to 720p or 1080i

Hello. You have to use the HDMI port and connect to the HDMI, or DVI, port on the back of the TV to get 1080. Even if playing HDDVD, this cable is necessary to get the increase. That, and the TV has to be in 1080 too. If you look at the display, on the front of the player, while watching the DVD, it will tell you at what resolution the DVD is playing. The HDMI to HDMI/DVI must be installed to get the increase in resolution. I have a Panasonic HD 34" 1080i widescreen TV, with DVI connection. When connected, the player played my DVD's at 1080i on my TV, while at only 480i thru the composite cables.

On some older movies or series(I like Star Trek- TNG), it doesn't work well due to the transfer to the DVD. Most newer DVD's, such as Batman Begins (there is an HD out, but I have DVD only), improved on the upconvert for me nicely.
