The drive of the 405 is formatted in FAT32,so you can´t manage files bigger than 2gb.

How do I copy music from CD. I want to transfer from laptop to Archos Clipper but even though it says the copy is complete I haven't been able to find the music! Can you help? Many thanks. Cara

MP3 players can only play music files in mp3 file format. You can download mp3 music files from the Internet toyour computer and then copy them to your MP3 player. For your CD collection, you need to convert your CDs tomp3 music files onto your computer or download them from the Internet and thencopy them to your MP3 player.
You can do this using Windows Media player and Rip the CDs - Media Player willcreate a MP3 music file for each music track.

Can I transfer my iPod photos to my ps3 system? If so how? Ive done clicked on every thing tryin to figure it out so, before I give up, can any one pleeease help :)

There are many ways in which you can put media onto your PS3, and although this is not a definitive guide on every single possible way, I will outline the most common ways one may put media onto your ps3!

*NOTE*
Im using the new Firmware, 1.90. I suggest you upgrade as well for maximum flexibility, and for consistency in this article.

I think that before showing you how to put media onto your PS3, you need to know what kind of files it will play, as only certain files can be played!

Pictures:
-JPEG (DCF 2.0/Exif 2.21 compliant)
-TIFF
-BMP
-GIF
-PNG

Music:
-Memory Stick Audio Format(ATRAC)
-MP3(MPEG-1/2 Audio Layer 3)
-MP4(MPEG-4 AAC)
-WAVE(Linear PCM)

*NOTE ON MUSIC*
If you have licenced MP3s, or any other kind of restricted material, then it most likely not play using the PS3s music software.

Video:
-Memory Stick Video Format
-MPEG-4 SP (AAC LC)
-H.264/MPEG-4 AVC Main Profile (AAC LC)
-MPEG-1 (MPEG Audio Layer 2)
-MPEG-2 PS (MPEG2 Audio Layer 2, AAC LC, AC3(Dolby Digital), LPCM)
-MPEG-2 TS (MPEG2 Audio Layer 2)

----------
Copy using Device
----------
Now that you know what kind of files the PS3 will play, it is safe to put them onto the PS3s HDD!

Transfering using a CD(Using Files), Memory Stick, Flash Drive(USB), SD Card External HDD*, iPod*, which will all be referred to as 'device':

It is important to know that you must(well, not sure if its a MUST, but it works better this way) have folder corresponding to what media you are transfering. For example, im going to transfer two songs, two pics, and two videos. So, on the device im using, I would make three different folders: Music, Pictures, Video. Understand? Great.

Now, once you have copied the media(files), and placed them into their corresponding folders, you can insert the device into the PS3. Switching to the PS3s OS(operating system), you can copy the media to your ps3 pretty easily, and its the same for pictures, music, and video. For my example I will use an SD Card as the device used to copy media:

Using anything but an external HDD or iPod:
1. Using the PS3 controller, find the appropriate tab (Music, Video, Photo).
2. Press the Down key until the device is shown. My device is a SD Card, so I will highlight it.
3. Press the triangle Button once it is highlighted, and select display all.
4. Press the X Button on the corresponding folder(Video for Videos, etc).
5. If copying more than 1 file, press the triangle button and press the up arrow on the controller until you highlight the 'Copy Multiple.' Press X. Now you can choose which media you wish to copy, or you can copy everything by pressing the right arrow, and choosing 'Select All' then Ok.
6. Watch as your media is copied to the PS3!

Using an iPod:
1. Locate the white USB cord that came with your iPod. In case you were wondering, thats also probably how you charge your iPod too. smile.gif
2. Connect the iPod to the PS3 using the USB Cord. Yes, you can do this.
3. Highlight the iPod using the controller, press Triangle. Then highlight display all and hit X.
4. Select iPod Control, Select the appropriate folder (music, Video, Pics), Hit X.
5. Hit the Triangle Button again, and select copy multiple. See step 5 above.

Using an HDD:
Ok, I admit, Ive never used an external HDD to copy anything to my PS3. But if you have read the steps above, I can almost guarantee you will have to hit Triangle, Display All, and then find where you put the stuff. Its important to be organized, so you should probably just have a folder that contains all music, all video, and all pics, broken down however way you like it. The steps to copy the media should all be the same as above. smile.gif

----------
Copy using "Search for Media Servers"
----------

Ok, this is a bit more complicated. The only way I know how to do this is using windows, so for everyone using linux, "Lawl." Im sure there are more ways to do this, im just showing you the way I figured it out. You *MUST* have a router to do this, or be on the same network as your PS3.

For demonstration purposes, I will use music for my example. This will also work with pictures and video

1. Transfer all media to the My Documents folder, and put them into the correct folders.
2. Load up PS3.
3. Goto Windows Media Player 11(If you dont have it, DL it), Library, then Media Sharing. Select "Unknown Device" and hit allow. **DO NOT** 'Allow new devices and computers automatically.' This will let any computer connect to yours, and probably will allow them to upload some nasty Virus'
4. Go back to your PS3, and now under Video, Music, or Picture tab and now select the thing with the Windows Icon. *Note: if there are more than one, then select the computer you want to retrieve your media from, ie yours.
5. Select Music. Hit X. Hit down until you highlight Folders, hit X. Goto my Music. If you wish to copy the whole folder, hit triangle and select copy multiple, the select all and copy. If you wish to only copy a few songs, select the My Music folder, hit x, then triangle, then highlight the song and hit copy.

Hi i have a archos 18 vision and i can not get my ps3 to conect with it so i can down load music

Does the MP3 player charge when it is plugged into the system?
if not then you may need a different USB lead, if it DOES charge, it may be the case that the device is formatted in a way that prevents computers (or playstations etc.) accessing music without certain software. my personal solution for this was to put all of your music from your computer onto a USB stick and copy it over to the PS3. You can copy music from iTunes by selecting tracks and pressing CTRL+C, I believe the same applies in windows media player

Mac user

I have a macbook with leopard and when I plugged in my 605 via proprietary USB, it immediately recognized it. On the 605's screen, you'll notice it asks if you want to connect or charge only. click connect. then the "disk" shows up on your mac's screen. then I just double-click to open the disk image and drag and drop the files that I wanted to copy. Only took about 45 minutes or so to copy my library over.
