I have to hold the knob in to keep it running, and sometimes you do not have to push in the knob at all, it will work when turning unit from off to low and then using push igniter the unit will run without holding knob in. What is goin on with unit?

Hello
This sounds like a bad thermocouple,a small copper tube running from the pilot lite area to the gas valve which feels heat and keeps the gas valve open for gas to flow through,when calling for heat and also keeps the pilot light lit.

Try replacing it,br sure all gas is off prior to doing any work to unit.

Hope this helps.

I have a model j81. Says to hold button down to light pilot but I can't find a button

Could be the instructions are out of date as sometimes the button on other appliances has been integrated into the main control knob. Perhaps this is the case with your appliance...

If this is the case the lighting instruction might be similar to below.
In the off position it is possible to push the control knob in a short way to supply gas to the pilot and then turn the knob anti-clockwise for ignition. Once lit it is important to keep the knob pushed in until the thermocouple is warm enough to maintain gas flow and then it can be released and the desired heat setting selected.

How do I start a 1973 komfort travel trailer water heater?

See if big red knob has a PILOT or LIGHT setting and put it on that setting. Next look at knob on bottom-- it should have a circle cutout on it that needs to align with the pilot push button. The cutout lets the button be pushed in. While holding button in---light the pilot and keep holding the button in for about 3 minutes. If everything is working right with the water heater, after 3 minutes or so you can let go of the button and the pilot should remain on. If it stays on. turn the smaller button to the run or heat position and the big burner should come on. Then set the big heat control knob for the heat setting you want.

I,PUSH THE STARING KNOB IT RUN FOR A FEW SECOND THEM IT SHUT OFF I PUSH THE KNOB AGAIN AND IT RUN BUT IT WILL NOT KEEP RUNNING WITHOUT THE KNOB IS PUSH IN I CHECK THE DOOR CONTROL IS OK

It could be if its warm already that you have a bad thermostat ,, but first , do you have to hold the button in to get it to run, and when you release it it stops? If you post a reply to this I can better assist you,, but if thats the case, put a jumper wire on the switch , if it works by bypassing it, replace the switch itself,

DRYER HUMS WHEN CNTROL KNOB IS PRESSED & MOVES SLIGHTLY..IF HELD IN TOO LONG IT BKICKS BREAKER. MODEL#HYE3658AYW

Greetings,

This sounds like the motor is bad, or going bad...I would have someone help you try and start it....open the door and hold the door switch in and keep holding the door switch while pushing the knob to start it and at the same time....have someone try and turn the inside drum usually, counterclockwise and see if it takes off....if it does...let go of the start switch up on console(timer),
but keep holding in on the door switch to let it run for awhile...you can shut the door real fast and it should keep running... if none of this works and it still will not start and just hum...the motor is bad

We have a fairly new heater. went to turn on the pilot light and it won't ignite. what do you think is wrong? gas has been turned on before igniting

Sometimes it takes a few seconds for gas to reach the pilot. When you place the thermostat knob/gas control in the pilot position you must then depress it (push it down and hold it down). Wait a few seconds while holding it down, then press the ignitor button with your other hand while continuing to keep the thermostat knob depressed. You may have to hold the knob down and press the ignitor several times. You should see a spark at the pilot if the ignitor is working properly. Continue to hold the knob down for 30 seconds after the pilot lights, then release the knob, it will pop up & you can then rotate it to lo/med/hi and the heater will come on.,

How do you re-light pilot light

Turn the knob on the gas valve to the pilot position. Sometimes you have to slightly depress the knob to turn it..don't use a pair of pliers. In the pilot position.. push the knob in and light the pilot..keeping the knob pushed in for 30 seconds. Let go and the pilot should stay on. Turn the knob to the on position and set the thermostat.

Searing Unit Keeps Cutting Out After Release of Knob

First I have a couple of questions for your question on how to fix your Brinkmann Gas Grill, Model 810-8501-S
===============================================.

1). Did you push the igniter for 3-5 seconds after you turned on the Sear Burner (remember, this needs to be done AFTER you've turned the control knob to HIGH).

2). Once the burner is lit, you then need to continue to PUSH & HOLD the control knob for another 30 seconds as this somehow seals the deal, thus this should solve the problem.

3). However, if this does NOT work, you may have a defective Sear Burner and the best thing to do is to contact the Customer Service Department over at Brinkmann:

We have a gas wall heater product number 4690011 and we do not know how to start it;

Remember if you smell gas, turn unit manual gas valve off and open a near by window, wait until smell is gone then proceed with these directions,turn manual gas valve back on, turn thermostat down.1.) turn combination gas valve knob to the pilot position and press down knob, if unit has a striker button, push striker while holding down knob until pilot lights, keep knob held down in the pilot position for 20 seconds then let up on knob and turn to the on position, turn thermostat up, main burners should light.

Clock

The manual was even wrong on this one. What you have to do is:

1. turn the key to the run position
2. push and hold the volume knob in until the unit turns off.
3. push it in again and hold it, the unit will turn back on and if you keep holding the button in the hour will start to flash
4. use the up/down, left/right buttons to set the time
5. push the button one more time and its all set
