I have an old LG TV model CI 21Q20ET. The power switch is faulty. When the remote unit is used to put the tv on it appears to power up and then immediately shut down. On one occasion you could hear it power up, then down, then up, then down, ... You get the picture.
Please could you let me know whether it is worth trying to get this fixed or should it just get trashed?
The TV is at least a few years old (sorry I can't be more specific than that). It has been quite a good tv, although for the past year or so I noticed a patch on the screen that was 'discoloured'. The point is that although I had mentally noted that a new TV would be required, I hadn't actually budgeted/planned for one just at this time.
I'm just wondering now whether the cost of getting it repaired is sufficient or whether it is just as well to junk this TV and get a new one. I don't know whether this is a common problem, for instance, that is easily and cheaply repaired or whether it's a sign of 'things to come'.
I've tried to Google problems with this model, but can't find anything.

Try the power switch on the unit (it could just be remote batteries).
If that doesn't work try replacing the power cord.
Beyond that you're probably looking at a more expensive repair with a system board or power converter replacement. Get a quote from a TV repairman but remember when you get done you still have a used TV. At this point your TV model is probably valuable enough to repair. Were this a 5 year old unit I would probably just replace it.
If the standby light is ON, and the set does not power up by pressing power switch at the remote control, or at the side panel power switch, the main board is faulty. you must test the power cord first for open or faulty 2) test the receptacle for faulty see the diagram 3) test the power button +fuse and repair or replace.
Hi,
The lamp has already a resistance which is sense by the processor and made the unit a subsequent shutdown. It will produce an overload to the ballast board which is detected by the processor. Replace it with new one and your unit will back to normal again.

This issue is related to the TV's main board not seeing constant A/C power to unit so the board is turning off the TV. When the TV's main board see A/C power back to the unit, the TV will try to turn back on. This issue could be a loose power connection for the TV or a failing part inside the TV. Do other electrical devices work when plugged into the same wall outlet? Try the following: 1. Remove the cord from the back of the TV and reinstall it (perhaps it's loose going into the TV and was not installed correctly). 2. Try putting the cord into a different wall outlet (perhaps it's not a good outlet). 3. Try using a new power cord for the TV. (Any matching cord will work for testing)
If the above did not resolve the issue, then it could be the switch mode power supply and or the main board inside the TV. Both items are easy to change out. I can look up the LG part number for you.
The procedure is simple. Hold down the TV POWER button and press a number botton. Release the TV POWER button. The manuel gives the following list of codes:
LG/GoldStar....1 (predetermined), 2
Zenith...1, 3, 4
Samsung... 6, 7
Siny... 8, 9
Hitachi... 4

I heard that Best Buy is still selling these models despite this known problem- I am trying to have mione fixed but was told the replacement part is on back order until DECEMBER!
