It controls the depth of cut. Loosen the clamp at the back of the router and turn the motor until the bit touches the workpiece. Tighten the clamp. Turn the wheel until the line on the motor housing is at zero on the wheel. Loosen the clamp and turn the motor to the depth (on the wheel) of your desired cut,ie 1/4 ". retighten the clamp and your cut is set for 1/4th inch.

I have a singer 301a sewing machine that came from a cabinet. when I turn it on, the needle mechanism does not work, but the motor turns. Am I missing something? Thanks George

Without plugging in the machine does the needle go up and down when you turn the balance wheel? It could be frozen in need of cleaning and oil. If this is a recent purchase you may want to bring it to a service center. The wiring on these vintage machines can be iffy. The 301A is a great machine and we'll worth having it serviced.

Drill the center of the broken off bolt to a depth of about 1/2 inch and use an easy out to remove it. You should soak it with PB Blaster for about a hour before trying to remove it and dont forget to use WD40 to keep the drill bit cool while drilling. Good Luck

My kids have run the wheels down to nothing so I have bought replacement wheels...now I can't figure out how to get them on! The instruction manual is no help as it is just pictures, and not of wheel...

To remove the wheels, start by removing the little black piece in the center of the yellow hubcap. There are a couple of snap tabs in this black piece that hold it in place. When you remove it, you'll see the end of a metal rod going through the center of the wheels. Remove the star-looking washer (easier said than done) and pull the wheel off.

If you're just replacing the wheels, I recommend making sure this rod stays in place during the process. If it comes out, a couple white cylinders fall out of place in the motor assembly area. If they do, you'll need to remove the seat and black cover under the seat to access the cylinders and hold them in place while you push the rod back in place.

Good luck.

I have obtained a new motor for the rear passenger side wheel but am having trouble getting to the screws behind the rear wheel. How do I remove the wheel so that I can install the rear motor? ...

I had this same problem, but eventually figured it out.

The wheel comes off by removing the little black piece in the center of the yellow hubcap. There are a couple of snap tabs in this black piece, but it comes out well enough. You'll see the end of a metal rod going through the center of the wheels. Remove the star-looking washer and pull the wheel off. The other wheel will now come out as well, taking the rod with it.

Behind the wheel, you'll see 2 screws that hold the motor assembly in place. You'll also need to remove the seat and black cover to access the motor assembly.

Good luck.
