Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

ALTERNATE WAY TO TRANSFER PHOTOS AND VIDEOS TO A COMPUTER
If your photos and videos are stored on the memory card, then remove the memory card from the camera and insert it into an USB memory card reader. Connect this USB memory card reader and memory card into the USB port of your working computer. Your computer will see this as an USB Mass Storage Device or an external storage device; you can then open the folder on the memory card and copy the photos and to your computer. Memory card reader is a handy device and is inexpensive. You can copy photos from other cameras and you can also download photos off your memory card to someone else's computer without the need of installing any programs.

Where can i go to get the program to download my pictures from my camera to my computer

If your using window, you already have it, at least with vista. It is called window Photo gallery. Also your camera's manufacture has downloads for your camera, you can use adobe photoshop, which is downloadable, any electronics store also has these. Some are more inclusive and cost more than others but a simple program is all you need to retrieve the picture. On windows phot gallery, open the program and click on the header above the blank spot named file, then click on imprt photos from camera. If your camera is hooked to the computer it will recognize it and down load your pictures into the gallery

My mediaplayer cant play the video files

how do i find out what program or codec my camera has used to compress photos, i took a large number of photos and videos on my memory card, i can view them through the camera but when i load them onto the computer the first few hundred will open and then it says that i cant open the rest due to my computer not having the correct program to view the files, the camera is a few years old it is a finePix S5700 fujifilm, i have googled some info and have figured out that when space starts to be limited the camera will compress the files and thats why i can see the photos on the camera but when i transfer them to the laptop i dont have the right program to decode the compressed files, i understand that and also that i can down the load the codec i need to open the files but my problem is i dont know what codec i need to install on my computer or how to find it out..

Which program do I need to download photos from my olympus fe-270

If your camera uses a memory card, just purchase an inexpensive card reader and download your pics to a folder you create on your desktop. Double-click that to open your pictures.
