My Maytag fridge is leaking water on the left side, under the freezer side door, but continuously. We stopped using the water dispenser from the door but the water continues to leak, alot from time to time.

Water leaking from bottom of freezer door. It means that the freezer door is not closed will see the rubber frame it maybe broken some where or twisted . If it's broken it must be changed but if it's twisted you can use some medical cotton roll it by your hands like a pen and insert it behind the frame. I hope that help you. so sorry for my bad English.
its the compresor packed up,,,if this compresor is not pumping freezer gas around the pipe work the freezer wont work sorry but a new compresor is not a cheep thing to have fitted as it will need a re-gas as well
i had a similar problem with mine and the advice i got(possibly on here) was to leave the freezer door open to let the water supply pipe in the door defrost, put some blankets/ towels in the freezer to stop the food defrosting,it worked for me and only took about 10 mins.
The defrost drain hole in the freezer side is frozen closed. Turn off the fridge.Remove the bottom bin and look on the back wall of the freezer for the drain pan. It will have a block of ice in it. Use a hair dryer to defrost the pan AND the drain hole inside the pan, until you can pour a cup of water through the drain hole.
Sounds like a blocked defrost drain. By "American" I presume you mean side-by-side.
I had a similar problem with a freezer-on-top style Samsung. The solution to that was to defrost the freezer, remove the false backing plate in the freezer (required removal of the ice cube tray. the panel just pops out with a bit of pulling). The drain hole beneath the freezer coils was blocked with ice. This drain passes down into the fridge and then out the back of the fridge into the evaporation pan next to the motor. There is a collector pan under the freezer coils, this and the drain hole were filled with ice. When the freezer goes into its self-defrost cycle the water collects here and then overflows into the fridge.
I removed the ice with hot water/vinegar mixture (so it doesn't re-freeze immediately) and simultaneosuly used a bit of chiselling with a screwdriver to clear the drain plug. I did this from inside the fridge working up the drain hole into the freezer. The whole job took about an hour.
Defrost drain system is plugged and not draining out the back and into the drain collector. There is normally an air trap in this drain line under the back and behind a fiber removable panel. Check this trap and make sure it is clear of any blockage. You will then have to defrost the freezer and clear out the ice. Don't forget to replace the back fiber panel.
It is most likely a broken water tank in back wall of refrigerator section remove the crisper drawers you will see the tank it holds about 1.5 gal of water to keep it chilled for the dispenser. check all around it with the water on and someone getting water out of the dispenser at the same time check the seams closely. you should find the leak there let me know if not we may have to look into the water inlet valve
