You're right..This happens often when one changes the battery. Here's what to do :
The ERR message can only be corrected by holding in the DISP/MENU and STOP buttons for two seconds, which results in ALL the material on the recorder being erased. It will say (FOR) for a few minutes while it is erasing everything, then will work again.

Hello, I have a Paradigm T801 showing the error message ERR 40 Over Acceleration. Is there any easy fix for that problem?

Reset the machine and proceed wit this steps. God bles you

1.
    • 1
Unplug the treadmill. Locate the console key and place the safety or reset key into the treadmill console. Replace any parts that need replacing, or move on to the next step.
    • 2
Locate the reset switch on the underside of the treadmill console. Usually the button is large enough to trigger with a pencil eraser or Q-tip. Plug the treadmill plug back into the wall. Use the Q-tip to press the reset button. It may be necessary to hold the reset button down for a few seconds. "CL11" will appear in the display of the treadmill.
    • 3
Press the reset button one more time with the Q-tip. "CL21" should appear on the screen. Press the enter key. The display will change again and show "CL22." Keep pressing the enter key until the numbers cycle through to the number "CL26." Press enter one more time. The letter E should appear on the display screen.
    • 4
Press enter twice more. The letters "SS" should appear on the screen. When this happens, press the start/stop key. Making sure to keep well away from the tread, press enter to start the treadmill. The treadmill will start on its own. The treadmill will stop on its own after a few seconds. When it stops, press the power key two times. Remove the safety key and put in a safe place. Your treadmill is reset.

    Display screen flashes "CHK" repeatedly

    Hello.

From FixYa Support: The "ERR" message reportedly means a memory error.

Please NOTE: This solution will wipe out the memory.

Press the STOP and DISP/MENU buttons at the same time for about 2 seconds, and then the display should show "FOR". It will supposedly erase the whole memory, but will at least make the device usable again.

    Hope this helps.

My Olympus VN-3100 voice recorder has suddenly stopped working! When I switch it on it flashes CHK for a couple of minutes then says ERR

I had the same problem with my Olympus VN-5000. I found a solution, which appears to reformat the memory (ERR means memory error). Try to press the STOP and DISP/MENU buttons at the same time for about 2 seconds, and then the display should show "FOR". It will supposedly erase the whole memory, but will at least make the device usable again! I hope this solution works for your model.

    Olympus VN-3100PC Voice Recorder Problem

I fought with this machine for more than 9 months. And after playing with it today FINALLY got it working.

    This is what I did:

Unscrew the faceplate. (Three screws. One is under the batteries).

    Put the batteries back on.

Have the HOLD button on the normal position (down)

Press and hold the MENU/FOLDER button together with the STOP button

Press and hold the MENU/FOLDER button together with the DISPLAY button

You will see a GREEN light, then a RED light then a "FOR" message will appear

Press the DISPLAY button and after a few moments it will reset and ask you to enter the time.

GOOD LUCK. Let me know if it works for you.

    HAVE A NICE DAY.
