You sound like you have either a dead power supply inside or a dead motherboard. Best thing is to open it up and test each. replace the culprit.

My compaq Evo n610c my battery wont charge when on ac power. The light for when the battery wont go on.

sounds like your DC coonector came loose from the system board.it is a common problem with laptops,

Problem symptoms:

  1. Laptop randomly shuts down without any warning.
  2. Power LED and battery charge LED start flickering when you wiggle the power cord or the AC adapter tip on the back or your laptop.
  3. The battery will not get charged.
  4. When you plug AC adapter, the laptop appears to be dead and there is no LED activity at all (DC-IN jack on the system board is broken).
here is how to repair:

Compaq N610c does not power on on AC adapter or on Battery :(

Hello,

it might be that the AC adapter is no more working. To confim this, remove the laptop battery and test the AC adapter with the laptop.

You can also borrow a friend's AC adapter and test it with your laptop.

I wish you good luck.

Hi forum, I have been using Compaq N610c notebook and was working fine but was not power ON . on AC adapter but it was working on Battery. From last day, the battery become zero showing battery indicator...

It's possible that the AC adapter "died", and then your computer ran on battery-power until the battery went to 0%.

Or, the socket on the laptop where the AC adapter connects could have broken, or become disconnected from the motherboard, such that the power from the AC adapter was not being accepted, meaning that your computer was running on battery-power.

Take the AC adapter and the computer to a qualified technician, who can test that the AC adapter is working fine, and can disassemble the laptop, to inspect that socket where it connects.

Laptop not working

Hi,

Disconnect the battery and the AC adapter from the computer.. Hold down the power button for 2 mins. Now connect the AC adapter only..

If it was an issue with the static electricity then it should fix it.

Else try changing the wall outlet and chk if the connections are fine.

If the brick on\f the ac adapter does not get warm then probable the adapter has gone bad and need to be replaced.

If the it still does not work then you can also try reseating the ram and the hard drive.

If all the above does not work then probable the power module on the nb has gone bad and need to be repaired.

Anup

Bios password n610c

Try this: -
Remove your Laptop Li-ion battery module.
Then remove the RTC battery for at least 15min.
Replace RTC, and boot the computer ONLY with the AC-Adapter.
Enter the BIOS and set to boot from USB

Battery or ac adapter problems?

Sounds like you were cheated out of your money. Hopefully you just need to replace you Power Supply Cord and it will work fine because my guess it has broken wires and that caused the shutdown. If this does nit work, Your motherboard has been short circuited and this will never be fixed, it needs to be replaced and this is costly so it may be better to get whole new laptop. Buy a new Power cord and maybe a new battery if you feel you need to, but if they don't work, your laptop is dead

I think your battery was out of charge and your AC Adapter was defect so the laptop can't power up and can't charge the battery!

Will the computer not power up when plugged in, it normally will run off ac power even when battery is dead or removed.

Compaq evo n610c battery not charging

Hello All;
I used to have these same problems. I replace my BIOS battery, which I know was dead, because all settings get reset when I unplug the power and remove main battery. You might not have to replace it if its still good. Back to the main battery problem, You have a good change of solving this by going into BIOS, and under Tools there is a Battery Calibration option. Do the calibration for the main battery and-or other optional batteries attach and it will most likely solve the problems. This calibration process will take a long time; 1-charge, 2-discharge, 3-recharge, so leave it over night or however.

There was a mention of updating BIOS. This could solve the problem too, because BIOS controls the charging unit. Also, make sure you have Compaq Power Management install on your OS, (download at hp.com).

One note: it will not charge if the battery is about 93% or higher. 93 is not exact, but close to 90%. so test by discharging to below 90% and it will start charging again.

If anyone tries this, leave a post of your success or failure.
