I have a HTR-5140 stereo receiver 6 years old used very little. Last time I turned it on after two seconds I heard a click and it turns itself off. No fuses that I know of accesible from the outside?? Any ideas Thanks

How to reset yamaha HTR-5650 AV receiver (maybe others) to factory default settings:
1. turn power off. 2. press the 6ch input and stereo button simultaneously for 4 seconds. Then while holding down these 2 buttons, turn the power on. 3. press preset tuning to the right until option #9 is selected. 4. Then, press program button until the *RV option is selected. 5. turn power off, wait 10 seconds. 6. turn power on, settings are reset.
1 Hold down STEREO on the Front Panel
"Factory Preset" appears on the front panel
2 Press STEREO to select the desired setting.
'Reset' To reset to factory presets
'Cancel' to cancel without making changes
3 Press STANDBY/ON to confirm your selection
I am sure you have tried and disconnecting all the speakers and taking the unit to another outlet right? If it works you fried your surge and need to replace it. Otherwise the unit went into that strange power protection mode
Shutting off before the safety relay clicks means there is a problem with one or more audio output channels. Time to see a service center. There is little that can be done without a tech...
The clicking is the sound of a bad relay. A relay is an electrical switch that opens and closes under the control of another electrical circuit. There is no user solution for this. You'll have to take it to an electronics repair shop (~$150) or dump the whole unit.
MichaelM Did you ever get this resolved? I have a similar problem, my video feed seems to work but I have never been able to get any sound from my speakers using this component. I'm not sure what YPAO setup is but I just read a suggestion to reset the receiver to factory settings in the event something is programmed that causes the problem.

The reset procedure will clear an incorrect setting that might be causing abnormal operation.
