Sony VAIO Digital Studio PCV-RZ26G PC Desktop Logo
Anonymous Posted on Jan 30, 2010

Someone gave me a sony vaio desktop pcv-rz26g without a hard drive or ram. i added both and installed winxp-sp3 along with every windows update. i am having a hell of a time trying to add this 'giga pocket' program. i'd like to be able to use the vaio's tv card: Lime ENX-15 1-682-228-12 or PCVA-IMB4A. and please, please dont refer me to that stupid sony website because all they seem to offer is updates, updates & more updates as if i have the files or programs to begin with. there are no ''original'' programs, just updates. so none of them work!

Hi Ryan,

Sorry to hear about your troubles, but I think I have something that can help you:

1. Don't shoot me, but if you haven't already, go to this link and download the package. You don't need the Giga Pocket update (is useless so I assume that is where you are having problems) BUT the MPEG encoder drivers are necessary.

2. Get the Giga Pocket app and all the frills for XP from here

3. Although I could leave it here, I know that a lot of problems arise when people install both the drivers and Giga Pocket app such as getting a grey screen for all your channels despite this whole process being such a pain. All you need to do to make it work is a little bit more work from a command prompt by registering the *ax files. Since you installed the HD, RAM and a new OS, I think you can handle it.

To register the Sony *.ax files (after installing the initial drivers and Giga Pocket):

Note: There seem to be a lot of *.ax files, so I am giving you the automated option. If you have issues and want to do each manually, let me know and I'll guide you.

1.) From the command window, type as follows:
cd "c:\Program Files\Sony"
dir /S /B *.ax

This will give you a list of all of the .ax files in all of the subdirectories.

2.) You need to copy this list into a text file. First, click the window icon at the top left-hand side of the command window. When the menu drops down choose edit-> Mark. Now you can drag the mouse to select the entire list of files. Don't forget to scroll up and start with the first file in the list. When you have selected the entire list, press enter to copy the text.

3.) Next, open Notepad and paste the text into a new document. Now use the search and replace feature as follows. First, replace all instances of c:\
with the following
regsvr32 "c:\

Then, replace all instances of
.ax
with the following
.ax"

4.) Finally, save the file somewhere easy to remember would the file extension .bat. For example, you could save it as c:\giga.bat

Now all you have to do is run the batch file that you just created. You can either double-click it or run it from the command window. To run it from the command window simply enter the filename by itself on the command line. When you run it, it will display a dialog box for each file that was successfully registered.

Did you reformat the entire hard drive when you installed Vista? If you formatted the recovery partition you won't be able to go back without a Xp installation disc.

On my Sony PCV-RZ26G computer I recently installed a 500GB hard drive. With windows XP installed (SP2 or 3) the system fails to find the drive on a cold start resulting in a "Disk Boot Failure"...

try installing afresh from scratch.....
dont clone
try use a smaller partition for C (say 60 - 80GB)
boot from the XP disk(change boot seq in BIOS to boot from CDROM)
and install fresh copy....

Unit will not come to life - Red light on swich illuminates - never goes green - fan comes on but nothing else. Unit worked fine until SP3 downloaded - now the unit is dead

Sorry you are having trouble. Without the ability to see the screen there is little you can do. If I were to attempt a repair I would take a new Hard Drive (HD) and install Windows on it. This would merely verify the rest of the unit is good. It sounds like a trip to the shop is needed here.
