Compaq evo desktop just put windows xp on it. all good except it wont allow me to change screen resolution from 640 by480 pixels and the color is only 4 bit.thanks guys

  • Davis M May 11, 2010

Give a little more specific information about the evo model... there's a good chance if windows isn't doing anything good with the color or resolution that it isn't able to identify the video card(or its capabilities) at all. Find a model number from your computer and we'll get you the right video driver, that should fix things.

I know how to change the resoultion on a HP pavillion 504n but when i get to the slider it wont move its on 640 by 480 pixels how can I change it?

If the slider will not move, your monitor may not be capable of accepting the higher resolution. Check the kind of color you are using, medium, true of highest.

My friend has a Compaq Evo N600c and brought it over because she couldn't get it to get online. Also, the display is out, so she has to hook it up to a monitor to see the screen. I figured after we got...

Graphics ATI Mobility Radeon, 64-bit video graphics (4X AGP) with 32 MB DDR SDRAM for increased color depth and graphics performance
Display (External) Up to 32-bit per pixel color depth
Supports 640 x 480, 800 x 600, 1024 x 768, 1280 x 1024, 1400 x 1050, 1600 x 1200, or 2048 x 1536 resolutions up to 160-Hz refresh rate, dependent upon monitor capability, resolution and color depth settings
Display (Internal) 14.1-inch color TFT SXGA+ with 1400 x 1050 resolution (up to 16.7M colors internal)
14.1-inch color TFT XGA with 1024 x 768 resolution (up to 16.7M colors internal)
Operating System Microsoft Windows 2000 only or
Microsoft Windows 2000 preinstalled/Windows NT 4.0 on CD or
Dual installation of Microsoft Windows XP Professional Edition/Microsoft Windows 2000 or
Microsoft Windows 98 SE

I would say that if the display was working, as Win2000 is nor driver based there would be an image on the screen. So I would say it is not a driver issue, it is a hardware issue and requires a screen.
There are no drivers available anyway.
Check out ebay for spare parts, you may fins a screen on there for not a lot of money.
The keyboard issue is probably a virus.
Hope that helps

What is the recomended resolution display setting for my Acer X193w monitor

Hi there,

A computer monitor is made of pixels (short for "picture element").

Monitor resolution is measured in pixels, width by height. 640 x 480 resolution means that the screen is 640 pixels wide by 480 tall, an aspect ratio of 4:3. With the exception of one resolution combination (1280 x 1024 uses a ratio of 5:4), all aspect ratios are the same.

Hope this initial information helps. Let me hear from you again for any clarifications.

Thank you for using fixya.com

This could take for ever .. So check your card.. it rules how big your monitor will go.
you can set it to 1024 by 1024 but if the card is only good for 640 by 480 thats as far as you can go..look up the specs on your video card...
